DTC P0011-00: Camshaft Position "A" - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance Bank 1; DTC P0012-00: Camshaft Position "A" - Timing Over-Retarded Bank 1 [08/2023 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0011-00 OR P0012-00) 
    1. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      P0011-00 or P0012-00 and other DTCs are output A
      P0011-00 or P0012-00 is output B

      HINT: 

      If any DTCs other than P0011-00 or P0012-00 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS (CONTROL THE INTAKE VVT OCV DUTY RATIO BANK 1) 

    Pre-procedure1

    • Start the engine.
    • Read the Data List while performing the Active Test with the engine idling.

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

      Active Test Display
      Control the Intake VVT OCV Duty Ratio Bank 1
      Data List Display
      Intake VVT Change Angle Bank 1

  3. CLEAR DTC

  4. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0011-00 OR P0012-00) 

    Pre-procedure1

    • Start the engine and warm it up.
    • Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    • Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes

      P0011-00 or P0012-00 is output B

      HINT: 

      DTC P0011-00 or P0012-00 may be stored when foreign matter in the engine oil is caught in some parts of the system. The DTC will remain stored even if the system returns to normal after a short time. That foreign matter may then be captured by the oil filter.

  7. CHECK VALVE TIMING (CHECK FOR LOOSE TIMING CHAIN AND JUMPED TEETH) 

    Pre-procedure1

    • Remove the cylinder head cover sub-assembly.

      HINT: 

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 26

    • Turn the crankshaft pulley and align its groove with the "0" timing mark of the timing chain cover.
    • Check that the timing marks of the camshaft timing gear assembly and camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly are at the positions shown in the illustration.

      HINT: 

      If the timing marks are not at the positions shown, turn the crankshaft one revolution clockwise.

      HINT: 

      If the result is not as specified, check for mechanical malfunctions that may have affected the valve timing, such as a jumped tooth or stretching of the timing chain.

  8. CHECK ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEM 
    1. Check for mechanical malfunctions that affect the valve timing, such as a jumped tooth or stretching of the timing chain.

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after repairing or replacing the engine mechanical system.
