DTC P0014: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1); DTC P0015: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 1); DTC P0024: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 2); DTC P0025: Camshaft Position "B" - Timing Over-Retarded (Bank 2) [09/2014 - 11/2017]: Procedure

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 OR P0025) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 is output A
      DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 and other DTCs are output B

      HINT: 

      If any DTCs other than P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

    Result: 

    B 

    GO TO DTC CHART. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [09/2014 - 10/2015]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2015 - 08/2016]  , or refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2016 - 11/2017]

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE VVT EXHAUST LINEAR) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Turn the A/C switch on.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 1) or Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 2).

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

      Tester Display
      Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank1)

      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test 

      Tester Display
      Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank2)
    6. Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft) using the Techstream.

      OK

      Techstream Operation Engine Condition
      0% Normal engine speed
      100% Engine idles roughly or stalls

      HINT: 

      Refer to "Data List / Active Test" [VVT Ex OCV Duty #1, VVT Ex Chg Angle #1, VVT Ex OCV Duty #2 and VVT Ex Chg Angle #2].

      Refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [09/2014 - 10/2015] , or refer to DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST [10/2015 - 11/2017]

  3. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 OR P0025) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Clear the DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs 

    5. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
    6. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    7. Turn the Techstream on.
    8. Start the engine and warm it up.
    9. Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in the Confirmation Driving Pattern.
    10. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes / Pending.
    11. Read the pending DTCs.

      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs are not output A
      DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 is output B

      HINT: 

      DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 or P0025 may be stored when foreign matter in the engine oil is caught in some parts of the system. The DTC will remain stored even if the system returns to normal after a short time. This foreign matter may then be captured by the oil filter.

  4. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR EXHAUST CAMSHAFT) 
    1. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft).

      Refer to INSPECTION [09/2014 - 11/2017]

      Result

    Result:

    REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR EXHAUST CAMSHAFT). Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2014 - 11/2017]

  5. CHECK VALVE TIMING (CHECK FOR LOOSE TIMING CHAIN AND JUMPED TEETH)

  7. REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING EXHAUST GEAR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly (bank 1 or bank 2).

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 29

      HINT: 

      Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the camshaft timing exhaust gear assembly.

      Refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2014 - 11/2017]

  8. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 OR P0025)

  9. CHECK ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEM 
    1. Check for mechanical malfunctions that affect the valve timing, such as a jumped tooth or stretching of the timing chain.

    REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS, COMPONENT AND AREA

  10. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0014, P0015, P0024 OR P0025)
