DTC P0A81-96: Hybrid/EV Battery Cooling Fan 1 Component Internal Failure; DTC P0A8198: Hybrid/EV Battery Cooling Fan 1 Component or System Over Temperature [10/2018 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HYBRID CONTROL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
    4. Check for DTCs.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Trouble Codes 

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      "P0AFC00 or P0AFC96" is not output. A
      "P0AFC00 or P0AFC96" is also output. B
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART (HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM). Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [10/2018 - ]

  2. CHECK DUCT AND BLOWER 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the appropriate service information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the bench type rear seat cushion assembly.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6 Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

    3. Check that the No. 1 HV battery intake filter, battery cooling blower assembly, No. 1 hybrid battery intake duct and No. 1 hybrid battery intake duct LH are not disconnected, damaged, or clogged with foreign matter.

      *1 No. 1 HV Battery Intake Filter *2 Battery Cooling Blower Assembly
      *3 No. 1 Hybrid Battery Intake duct *4 No. 1 Hybrid Battery Intake Duct LH

      OK

      The No. 1 HV battery intake filter, No. 1 hybrid battery intake duct, No. 1 hybrid battery intake duct LH and battery cooling blower assembly blower are not disconnected, damaged, or clogged with foreign matter.

    4. Install the bench type rear seat cushion assembly.

      Result

    CORRECT THE PROBLEM

  5. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU (GROUND SHORT CHECK) 
    1. Remove the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

      Refer to REMOVAL [10/2018 - 07/2022] Refer to REMOVAL [07/2022 - ]

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Hybrid Vehicle Control ECU)

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F60-38 (SI0) - F60-12 (E01) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      F60-38 (SI0) - F60-11 (E02) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
    3. Install the hybrid vehicle control ECU.

      Result

  6. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (COOLING FAN FREQUENCY)
