Removal [08/2016 - 12/2017]: Procedure

  1. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  2. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE 

    Refer to PRECAUTION [10/2015 - 12/2017]

  3. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After turning the power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal notices before proceeding with work.

    Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2016 - 12/2017]

  4. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION PAD LH 
    1. Remove the 2 screws and front wheel opening extension pad LH from the No. 3 engine under cover.
  5. REMOVE NO. 3 ENGINE UNDER COVER 
    1. Remove the 5 bolts, 4 screws, 2 clips and No. 3 engine under cover from the vehicle body.
  6. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION PAD RH 
    1. Remove the 2 screws and front wheel opening extension pad RH from the No. 1 engine under cover.
  7. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts, 4 screws, clip and No. 1 engine under cover from the vehicle body.
  8. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 screws, clip and No. 2 engine under cover from the front frame assembly.
  9. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL LH 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, clip and front fender apron seal LH from the vehicle body.
  10. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL RH 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, clip and front fender apron seal RH from the vehicle body.
  11. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR COVER LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  12. DISCONNECT BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP CONNECTOR 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH or engine mounting spacer is necessary.

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  13. PERFORM ACCUMULATOR PRESSURE ZERO DOWN 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH or engine mounting spacer is necessary.

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  14. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH or engine mounting spacer is necessary.

  15. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (for Engine) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  16. DRAIN ENGINE OIL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  17. DRAIN COOLANT (for Inverter) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  18. DRAIN HYBRID TRANSAXLE FLUID 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  19. REMOVE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [08/2016 - 12/2017]

  20. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  21. SECURE STEERING WHEEL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  22. REMOVE FRONT WHEELS 

    Refer to REMOVAL [10/2015 - ]

  23. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Hold the rear of the V-bank cover sub-assembly and raise it to disengage the 2 rear clips.

    2. Raise the V-bank cover sub-assembly to disengage the 2 front clips and remove the V-bank cover sub-assembly.
      NOTE:

      Attempting to disengage both front and rear clips at the same time may cause the V-bank cover sub-assembly to break.

  24. REMOVE INVERTER TRAY BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the clamp to disconnect the outlet No. 1 inverter cooling hose from the inverter tray bracket sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the 5 bolts and inverter tray bracket sub-assembly.
  25. REMOVE BATTERY CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the clamp to disconnect the wire harness from the battery carrier sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the 6 bolts and battery carrier sub-assembly.
  26. DISCONNECT NO. 1 MOTOR COOLING HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 36

  27. DISCONNECT INLET MOTOR HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 37

  28. REMOVE ECM ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  29. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS 

    HINT: 

    After disconnecting the wire harness, secure it with tape or equivalent to keep it out of the way.

    1. Remove the bolt and disconnect the engine wire from the vehicle body.

    2. Disconnect the 3 connectors from the engine room relay block assembly.
    3. Disengage the 3 clamps.
    4. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claw and disconnect the engine wire from the engine room relay block assembly.

      Disengage the clamp and disconnect the engine wire from the vehicle body.

      Remove the bolt and disconnect the No. 2 earth wire from the wire harness bracket.

  30. DISCONNECT NO. 1 RADIATOR HOSE 
    1. Separate the No. 1 radiator hose from the radiator pipe clamp.

    2. Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 1 radiator hose from the water outlet.
  31. DISCONNECT NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE 
    1. Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 2 radiator hose from the water inlet with thermostat sub-assembly.

  32. DISCONNECT INLET HEATER WATER HOSE

      Disengage the clamp.

    2. Slide the clip and disconnect the inlet heater water hose from the water outlet.
  33. DISCONNECT OUTLET HEATER WATER HOSE

      Slide the clip and disconnect the outlet heater water hose from the water inlet pipe.

  34. DISCONNECT NO. 1 FUEL VAPOR FEED HOSE 
    1. Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 1 fuel vapor feed hose from the No. 1 vacuum switching valve assembly.

  35. SEPARATE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  36. REMOVE RESERVOIR BRACKET 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  37. DISCONNECT DISCHARGE HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  38. DISCONNECT SUCTION HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  39. DISCONNECT NO. 1 FUEL HOSE 
    1. Remove the No. 2 fuel pipe clamp from the fuel tube connector.

    2. Disconnect the No. 1 fuel hose from the fuel pipe.

  40. REMOVE FRONT NO. 3 EXHAUST PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 16

  41. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 23

  42. SEPARATE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  43. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

  44. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  45. REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST PIPE SUPPORT BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 exhaust pipe support bracket from the oil pan sub-assembly.

  46. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING UNDER COVER 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and flywheel housing under cover from the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

  47. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE 
    1. Using height adjustment attachments and plate lift attachments to keep the engine assembly with transaxle and front frame assembly level, set an engine lifter underneath the engine assembly with transaxle and front frame assembly.
      NOTE:
      • Do not perform any procedures while the engine assembly is suspended because doing so may cause the engine assembly to drop, resulting in injury. However, the engine assembly needs to be suspended when it is installed to or removed from an engine stand.
      • To prevent the engine assembly from unexpectedly moving, securely support the engine assembly until it is secured to an engine stand.

      Remove the bolt and nut and separate the engine mounting bracket LH from the engine mounting insulator LH.

      Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and No. 2 engine mounting stay RH.

      Remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts and separate the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH from the front No. 1 engine mounting bracket LH.

      Remove the 6 bolts, 2 nuts, frame side rail plate sub-assembly RH and frame side rail plate sub-assembly LH from the front frame assembly and vehicle body.

    6. Remove the 6 bolts, 2 nuts, front suspension member bracket sub-assembly RH and front suspension member bracket sub-assembly LH from the front frame assembly and vehicle body.
    7. Operate the engine lifter and remove the engine assembly with transaxle from the vehicle.
      NOTE:
      • Make sure that the engine assembly with transaxle is clear of all wiring and hoses.
      • While lowering the engine assembly with transaxle from the vehicle, do not allow it to contact the vehicle.
  48. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS

  49. REMOVE NO. 2 EGR PIPE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 15

  50. REMOVE NO. 2 EGR PIPE GASKET

  51. DISCONNECT WATER BY-PASS HOSE ASSEMBLY

  52. DISCONNECT NO. 6 WATER BY-PASS HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 16

  53. REMOVE EGR VALVE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17

  54. REMOVE MANIFOLD STAY

  55. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD (TWC: Front Catalyst) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 21

  56. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD TO HEAD GASKET (for Bank 1)

  57. REMOVE NO. 2 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR

  58. REMOVE NO. 2 MANIFOLD STAY

  59. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD ASSEMBLY LH (TWC: Front Catalyst)

  60. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD TO HEAD GASKET (for Bank 2)

  61. INSTALL ENGINE HANGERS 
    1. Disengage the clamp to disconnect the wire harness from the wire harness bracket.

    2. Remove the bolt and wire harness bracket from the engine assembly.
    3. Install the No. 1 engine hanger and No. 2 engine hanger with the 4 bolts as shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 33 N*m (337 kgf*cm, 24 ft.*lbf) 

      HINT: 

      No. 1 Engine Hanger 12281-31121
      No. 2 Engine Hanger 12282-31100
      Bolt 91671-10825

    4. Using an engine sling device and engine lift, secure the engine assembly with transaxle.
      NOTE:
      • Pay attention to the angle of the sling device as the engine assembly or No. 1 engine hanger and No. 2 engine hanger may be damaged or deformed if the angle is incorrect.
      • Do not perform any procedures while the engine assembly is suspended because doing so may cause the engine assembly to drop, resulting in injury. However, the engine assembly needs to be suspended when it is installed to or removed from an engine stand.
  62. REMOVE ENGINE WIRE 
    1. Disconnect all clamps and connectors and remove the engine wire from the engine assembly with transaxle.
  63. SEPARATE FRONT NO. 1 STABILIZER BRACKET LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  64. SEPARATE FRONT NO. 1 STABILIZER BRACKET RH 

    HINT: 

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  65. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 STABILIZER BRACKET LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  66. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 STABILIZER BRACKET RH 

    HINT: 

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  67. REMOVE FRONT STABILIZER BAR

  68. REMOVE STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY

  69. REMOVE FRONT FRAME ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and separate the front engine mounting insulator from the front engine mounting bracket.

      Remove the bolt and separate the rear engine mounting insulator with the front frame assembly from the rear engine mounting bracket.

  70. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET 
    1. Using height adjustment attachments and plate lift attachments to keep the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly level, set an engine lifter underneath the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.
      NOTE:
      • Using rope, attachments or equivalent tools, firmly secure the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly to the engine lifter.
      • Using an engine sling device and engine lift, secure the engine assembly before servicing.
    2. Remove the rear engine mounting bracket.

  72. REMOVE NO. 3 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CASE COVER

  74. REMOVE TRANSMISSION INPUT DAMPER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using height adjustment attachments and plate lift attachments, place the engine assembly on a flat level surface.
      NOTE:
      • Using height adjustment attachments and plate lift attachments, keep the engine assembly horizontal.
      • To prevent the No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly from deforming, do not place any attachments under the No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly of the engine assembly.
      • Using an engine sling device and engine lift, secure the engine assembly before servicing.
    2. Remove the transmission input damper assembly.

  75. REMOVE FLYWHEEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

  76. INSTALL ENGINE ASSEMBLY TO ENGINE STAND 
    1. Install the engine assembly to an engine stand.
  77. REMOVE ENGINE HANGERS 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts, No. 1 engine hanger and No. 2 engine hanger.
  78. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the front engine mounting insulator is necessary.

      Remove the hole plug from the front frame assembly.

      Remove the 3 nuts and front engine mounting insulator from the front frame assembly.

  79. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the rear engine mounting insulator is necessary.

      Remove the 2 hole plugs from the front frame assembly.

      Remove the 4 nuts and rear engine mounting insulator from the front frame assembly.

  80. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH is necessary.

    1. Remove the brake booster pump assembly with bracket.

      Refer to REMOVAL [08/2016 - 03/2018]

    2. Remove the nut, 2 bolts and engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH from the engine mounting spacer and vehicle body.

  81. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING SPACER 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting spacer is necessary.

      Remove the 2 bolts and engine mounting spacer from the vehicle body.

  82. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR LH 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting insulator LH is necessary.

    1. Remove the 4 bolts and engine mounting insulator LH from the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

  83. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET LH 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting bracket LH is necessary.

    1. Disengage the clamp to disconnect the wire harness from the engine mounting bracket LH.
