Removal [09/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1 [09/2015 - 12/2017] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1 [12/2017 - ]

  2. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL RH 
  3. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11 [09/2015 - 08/2016] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11 [08/2016 - 12/2017] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11 [12/2017 - 08/2019] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13 [08/2019 - ]

  4. REMOVE AIR FUEL RATIO SENSOR (for Bank 1) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  5. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR COVER LH 
    1. Remove the clip (A), 2 screws and 4 bolts from the front floor cover LH.

    2. Disconnect the 2 clips (B) to remove the front floor cover LH.
  6. REMOVE FRONT NO. 3 EXHAUST PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    WARNING:

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust pipe or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.

    1. Disengage the 4 wire harness clamps.

    2. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (for Bank 1) connector.
    3. Remove the 4 bolts, 2 nuts and 2 compression springs and front No. 3 exhaust pipe sub-assembly from the front exhaust pipe assembly and center exhaust pipe sub-assembly (TWC: Rear Catalyst).

    4. Remove the 3 exhaust pipe gaskets from the front No. 3 exhaust pipe sub-assembly, front exhaust pipe assembly and center exhaust pipe sub-assembly (TWC: Rear Catalyst).
  7. REMOVE MANIFOLD STAY 
    WARNING:

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust manifold or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.

    1. Remove the bolt and nut to remove the manifold stay from the exhaust manifold (TWC: Front Catalyst) and rear engine mounting bracket.

  8. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD (TWC: Front Catalyst) 
    WARNING:

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust manifold or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.

    1. Using a 12 mm deep socket wrench, remove the 4 nuts and exhaust manifold (TWC: Front Catalyst) from the cylinder head sub-assembly RH.

  9. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD TO HEAD GASKET (for Bank 1) 
    1. Remove the exhaust manifold to head gasket from the cylinder head sub-assembly RH.

  10. REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST PIPE SUPPORT BRACKET (for Lower Side) 

    See step  7 [09/2015 - 12/2017], or see step  8 [12/2017 - ]

  11. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 

    See step  8 [09/2015 - 12/2017], or see step  9 [12/2017 - ]

  12. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK GUIDE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 16 [09/2015 - 08/2016] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 16 [08/2016 - 12/2017] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 16 [12/2017 - 08/2019] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 16 [08/2019 - ]

  13. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 23 [09/2015 - 08/2016] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 23 [08/2016 - 12/2017] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 23 [12/2017 - 08/2019] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 25 [08/2019 - ]

  14. REMOVE NO. 2 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR 
    WARNING:

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust manifold or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.

    1. Disconnect the air fuel ratio sensor connector.

    2. Disengage the wire harness clamp.
    3. Remove the 3 bolts and No. 2 exhaust manifold heat insulator from the exhaust manifold assembly LH (TWC: Front Catalyst).

  15. REMOVE AIR FUEL RATIO SENSOR (for Bank 2) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  16. REMOVE NO. 2 MANIFOLD STAY 
    WARNING:

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust manifold or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.

    1. Remove the bolt and nut and No. 2 manifold stay from the exhaust manifold assembly LH (TWC: Front Catalyst) and cylinder block sub-assembly.

  17. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD ASSEMBLY LH (TWC: Front Catalyst) 
    WARNING:

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust manifold or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.

    1. Disconnect the 2 No. 2 cooling fan motor connectors.

    2. Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 1 radiator hose from the radiator assembly.

    3. Using a 12 mm deep socket wrench, remove the 4 nuts and exhaust manifold assembly LH (TWC: Front Catalyst).

  18. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD TO HEAD GASKET (for Bank 2) 
    1. Remove the exhaust manifold to head gasket from the cylinder head sub-assembly.

  19. REMOVE STUD BOLT 

    HINT: 

    If a stud bolt is deformed or its threads are damaged, replace it.

    1. Using an E8 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the 2 stud bolts from the exhaust manifold (TWC: Front Catalyst).

    2. Using an E8 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the 2 stud bolts from the exhaust manifold assembly LH (TWC: Front Catalyst).
