Rear Axle Carrier: Removal

  1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL 
  2. DISCONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE (for 2WD) 
    1. Disconnect the connector from the skid control sensor.
      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.

  3. SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR (for 4WD) 
    1. Remove the bolt and separate the speed sensor from the axle carrier.
      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.
      • Prevent foreign matter from adhering to the speed sensor.

  4. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT (for 4WD) 
    1. Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the axle shaft nut.

      SST 09930-00010 

      NOTE: Loosen the staked part of the nut completely, otherwise the screw of the drive shaft may be damaged.
    2. While applying the brakes, remove the axle shaft nut.

  5. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and separate rear disc brake caliper assembly.
      NOTE: Use a string or other device to keep the brake caliper from hanging down.

  6. REMOVE REAR DISC  (See DISASSEMBLY )
  7. SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY NO.3 
    1. Remove the nut, and separate the parking brake cable No.3.

  8. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.
  9. REMOVE SKID CONTROL SENSOR (for 2WD)  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE REAR STRUT ROD ASSEMBLY 
    1. Support the rear axle carrier with a wooden block placed between the jack and axle carrier.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and strut rod assembly rear.

  11. SEPARATE REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY NO.1 
    1. Remove the bolt and nut, and separate the rear suspension arm assembly No.1.

  12. SEPARATE REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY NO.2 
    1. Remove the bolt and nut, and separate the rear suspension arm assembly No.2.

  13. REMOVE REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts, and the rear axle carrier sub-assembly from the shock absorber.
      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to damage the outboard joint boot.
      • Be careful not to damage the speed sensor rotor.
