Inspection Procedure
HINT
The wire harness between the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU and telescopic motor is provided with the steering column assembly.
- PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM
- Turn the engine switch off.
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3
- Turn the engine switch on (IG)
- Turn the Techstream on
- Check that the steering column contracts and extends Enter the following menus: Chassis / Tilt & Telescopic / Active Test

NG: Go to step 4
OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU (VCE TERMINAL VOLTAGE)
- Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below
Standard Voltage
VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONTester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition A-3 (VCE) - A-5 (E2) Engine switch on (IG) 8 to 16 V

OK: Go to next step
- Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below
- INSPECT TELESCOPIC POSITION SENSOR
- Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage
VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONTester Connection Condition Specified Condition A-4 (TES) - A-5 (E2) Telescopic steering contracts or extends 11 to 14 V (Pulse HI) Below 1 V (Pulse LOW)

OK: REPLACE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU (See REMOVAL )
- Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.
- INSPECT TELESCOPIC MOTOR
- Disconnect connector A from the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.
- Connect a positive battery lead to terminal A-2 (TEM+) and a negative battery lead to terminal A-6 (TEM-) of the telescopic motor connector. Then confirm that the steering column contracts.
OK: Steering column contracts.
- Connect a negative battery lead to terminal A-2 (TEM+) and a positive battery lead to terminal A-6 (TEM-) of the telescopic motor connector. Then confirm that the steering column extends.
OK: Steering column extends.
NG: REPLACE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )

OK: REPLACE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU (See REMOVAL )
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECU - BODY GROUND (VCE CIRCUIT))
- Disconnect connector A from the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONTester Connection Condition Specified Condition A-3 (VCE) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECU - BODY GROUND (GND CIRCUIT))
- Disconnect the J28 connector from the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONTester Connection Condition Specified Condition J28-11 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
