Inspection Procedure
- PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM
- Turn the engine switch off.
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the engine switch on (IG)
- Turn the Techstream on
- Check that the steering wheel tilts up and down. Enter the following menus. Chassis / Tilt&Telescopic / Active Test.
Tilt & Telescopic
ACTIVE TEST DETAILTester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note Tilt Tilt operation Operation UP/DOWN - OK: Steering wheel tilts up and down.
NG: Go to step 6
OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU - TILT POSITION SENSOR)
- Disconnect the J28 connector from the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.
- Disconnect the J22 connector from the tilt motor.
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONTester Connection Condition Specified Condition J28-6 (VCI) - J22-4 (VCI) Always Below 1 Ω J28-7 (TIS) - J22-5 (TIS) Always Below 1 Ω J28-17 (E1) - J22-6 (E1) Always Below 1 Ω J28-6 (VCI) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher J28-7 (TIS) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher J28-17 (E1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

OK: Go to next step
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU - BODY GROUND)
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONTester Connection Condition Specified Condition J28-11 (GND) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

OK: Go to next step
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
- INSPECT MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU (TIS TERMINAL VOLTAGE)
- Reconnect the J28 connector to the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU.
- Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage
VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONTester Connection Condition Specified Condition J28-7 (TIS) - J28-17 (E1) Steering tilts up or tilts down 11 to 14 V (Pulse HI) Below 1 V (Pulse LOW)

OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT TILT POSITION SENSOR
- Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage

OK: REPLACE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU (See REMOVAL )
- Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU - TILT MOTOR)
- Disconnect the J28 connector from the multiplex tilt and telescopic ECU
- Disconnect the J22 connector from the tilt motor
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below

OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT TILT MOTOR
- Connect a positive battery lead to terminal TIM+ and a negative battery lead to terminal TIM- of the tilt motor connector Then confirm that the steering wheel tilts up.
OK: Steering wheel tilts up.
- Connect a negative battery lead to terminal TIM+ and a positive battery lead to terminal TIM- of the tilt motor connector. Then confirm that the steering wheel tilts down.
OK: Steering wheel tilts down.
NG: REPLACE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
OK: REPLACE MULTIPLEX TILT AND TELESCOPIC ECU (See REMOVAL )
- Connect a positive battery lead to terminal TIM+ and a negative battery lead to terminal TIM- of the tilt motor connector Then confirm that the steering wheel tilts up.
