Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Lexus IS F. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The power mirror control system is a part of the multiplex communication system. This system features shared communication wiring that reduces the wiring complexity of the communication lines. The first step in any repair is to confirm the proper operation of the communication system. Proceed with troubleshooting after the communication has been verified (See HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING for Multiplex Communication System ).
  1. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check for multiplex communication system DTC s.

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Result Proceed to
      DTC is not output (for w/ navigation system) A
      DTC is not output (for w/o navigation system) B
      Multiplex communication system DTC is output C

    B: Go to step  3

    C:  GO TO MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART)

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check for navigation system DTC s (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR )

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Result Proceed to
      Navigation system DTC is output A
      DTC is not output B

    B: Go to step  4

    A: GO TO NAVIGATION SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART)  (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART )

  3. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check for audio and visual system DTC s (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART ).

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Result Proceed to
      DTC is not output A
      Audio and visual system DTC is output B

    B: GO TO AUDIO AND VISUAL SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART)  (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART )

    A: Go to next step 

  4. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    3. Enter the following menus. Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Active Test.
    4. According to the display on the Techstream, perform the Active Test.

      Air Conditioner

      Mirror Heater Mirror heater operation OFF/ON -

      Result

      Mirrors become warm (w/ Navigation System) A
      Mirrors become warm (w/o Navigation System) B
      Mirrors do not become warm C

    B: Go to step  7

    C: Go to step  11

    A: Go to next step 

  5. REPLACE MULTI-DISPLAY 
    1. Replace the multi-display (See REMOVAL ).
  6. CONFIRM MIRROR HEATER OPERATION 
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    2. Press the window defogger switch, and check that the mirror heaters operate.

      OK: Mirrors become warm. 

    NG: REPLACE A/C AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY 

    OK: END 

  7. REPLACE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL 
    1. Replace the integration control and panel (See REMOVAL )
  8. CONFIRM MIRROR HEATER OPERATION 
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    2. Press the window defogger switch, and check that the mirror heaters operate

      OK: Mirrors become warm. 

    NG: Go to step 9 

    OK: END 

  9. REPLACE RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the radio receiver assembly (See REMOVAL )
  10. CONFIRM MIRROR HEATER OPERATION 
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    2. Press the window defogger switch, and check that the mirror heaters operate

      OK: Mirrors become warm. 

    NG: REPLACE AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: END 

  11. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Select the Active Test, use the Techstream to issue a control command, and then check MIR HTR relay operation.
    2. Check that operation sound of the MIR HTR relay can be heard.

      OK: Operation sound of the MIR HTR relay can be heard. 

    NG: Go to step  15

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. INSPECT MIR HTR RELAY 

    (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )

    NG: REPLACE MIR HTR RELAY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  13. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MIR HTR RELAY - BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the MIR HTR relay
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard Voltage 

      VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay Block assembly MIR HTR relay terminal 2 - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (MIR HTR RELAY - OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  14. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MIR HTR RELAY - OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR) 
    1. Disconnect the MIR HTR relay and outer rear view mirror assembly connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      Outer Rear View Mirror Assembly LH 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay block assembly MIR HR relay terminal 3 - M15-3 (+) Always Below 1 Ω
      Relay block assembly MIR HTR relay terminal 3 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      M15-9 (-) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      Outer Rear View Mirror Assembly RH 

      RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay block assembly MIR HTR relay terminal 3 - L14-3 (+) Always Below 1 Ω
      Relay block assembly MIR HTR relay terminal 3 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      L14-9 (-) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (MIR HTR RELAY - OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR) 

    OK: REPLACE OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR  (See REMOVAL  )

  15. INSPECT MIR HTR RELAY 

    (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )

    NG: REPLACE HEATER MIRROR RELAY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  16. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MIR HTR RELAY - BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the MIR HTR relay.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      VOLTAGE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay 1 - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (MIR HTR RELAY - OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  17. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (MIR HTR RELAY - A/C AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the MIR HTR relay and A/C amplifier assembly connector
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Relay block assembly MIR HTR relay terminal 5 - J58-2 (MHTR) Always Below 1 Ω
      Relay block assembly MIR HTR relay terminal 5 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE MIR HTR FUSE OR HARNESS 

    OK: REPLACE AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER
