Side Airbag Sensor: Removal

HINT

  1. PRECAUTION 
    CAUTION: Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing (See PRECAUTION  ).
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
    NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See INITIALIZATION ).
  3. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE  (See REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE LOWER CENTER PILLAR GARNISH  (See REMOVAL )
  6. SEPARATE FRONT SEAT OUTER BELT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check that the engine switch is off.
    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal
      CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
    3. Using a screwdriver, pull out the locking button in the direction shown by the arrow to release the lock, and disconnect the pretensioner connector as shown in the illustration.

      HINT

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use

    4. Disconnect the connectors.

    5. Remove the 2 bolts and separate the front seat outer belt assembly

  7. REMOVE FRONT SEAT BELT RETRACTOR COVER 
    1. Disengage the claw and remove the front seat belt retractor cover from the body

  8. REMOVE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR 
    1. Check that the engine switch is off.
    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal
      CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
    3. Disconnect the connector from the side airbag sensor.
      NOTE: When disconnecting the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
    4. Remove the nut and disengage the pin, and remove the side airbag sensor
      NOTE: Loosen the nut while holding the side airbag sensor because the side airbag sensor pin (stopper) is easily damaged.
