Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT OPERATION 
    1. Check the SRS warning light operation approximately 6 seconds after the engine switch is turned on (IG)

      Result 

      SRS WARNING LIGHT REFERENCE

      SRS Warning Light Illumination Proceed to
      Remains on A
      Remains on after it goes off B

    B: Go to step  6

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE 
    1. Measure the voltage of the battery

      Standard voltage: 

      11 to 14 V 

    NG: INSPECT CHARGING SYSTEM AND BATTERY  (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTOR 
    1. Turn the engine switch off
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connector is properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly

      OK: The connector is properly connected. 

      HINT.

      If the connector is not connected securely, reconnect the connector and proceed to the next inspection

    4. Disconnect the connector from the center airbag sensor assembly.
    5. Check that the terminal of the connector is not damaged.

      OK: The terminal is not deformed or damaged. 

    NG: REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    2. Turn the engine switch to on (IG)
    3. Operate all components of the electrical system (defogger, wipers, headlights, heater blower, etc)
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      J47-21 (IG2) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 8 to 16 V

    5. Turn the engine switch off
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J47-25(E1) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      J47-26 (E2) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT 
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    2. Check the SRS warning light condition

      OK: After the primary check period, the SRS warning light goes off for approximately 10 seconds and remains on. 

      HINT

      The primary check period shows approximately 6 seconds after the engine switch is turned on (IG)

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

  6. CHECK MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Use the Techstream to check if the Multiplex communication system is functioning normally (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART )

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      Result Proceed to
      DTC is not output A
      DTC is output B

    B: GO TO MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM  (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART )

    A: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Use the Techstream to check if the CAN communication system is functioning normally.

      HINT:

      • Refer to the Bus Check for the CAN communication system (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM ).
      • The center airbag sensor assembly is connected to the CAN communication system. Therefore, before starting troubleshooting, make sure to check that there is no trouble in the CAN communication system.

      Result

      DTC is not output A
      DTC is output B

    B: GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM  (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM )

    A: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE 
    1. Measure the voltage of the battery.

      Standard voltage: 

      11 to 14 V 

    NG: INSPECT CHARGING SYSTEM AND BATTERY  (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK CONNECTOR 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Check that the connector is properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly.

      OK: The connector is properly connected. 

      HINT:

      If the connector is not connected securely, reconnect the connector and proceed to the next inspection.

    4. Disconnect the connector from the center airbag sensor assembly
    5. Check that the terminal of the connector is not damaged.

      OK: The terminal is not deformed or damaged. 

    NG: REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    3. Operate all components of the electrical system (defogger, wipers, headlights, heater blower, etc).
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

    5. Turn the engine switch off
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below

      J47-25(E1) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      J47-26 (E2) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK CONNECTOR 
    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    2. Check that the connector is properly connected to the combination meter assembly

      OK: The connector is properly connected. 

      HINT

      If the connector is not connected securely, reconnect the connector and proceed to the next inspection

    3. Disconnect the connector from the combination meter assembly
    4. Check that the terminal of the connector is not damaged

      OK: The terminal is not deformed or damaged. 

    NG: REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard Voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J34-24 (B) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V
      J34-12 (IG+) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

    4. Turn the engine switch off
    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard Resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J34-13 (ES) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  13. CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT 
    1. Connect the connector to the combination meter assembly
    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    4. Check the SRS warning light condition

      OK: After the primary check period, the SRS warning light goes off for approximately 10 seconds and remains on. 

      HINT.

      The primary check period shows approximately 6 seconds after the engine switch is turned on (IG)

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )
