Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CONDITION 
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    2. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation

      HINT

      Refer to the normal condition of the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM  )

      Result 

      RESULT CHART

      ON/OFF Indicator Illumination Proceed to
      Always ON A
      OFF B

    B: Go to step  9

    A: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR 
    1. Turn the engine switch off
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds
    3. Check that the connector is properly connected to the clock assembly*1 or integration control and panel assembly*2

      OK: The connector is properly connected. 

      HINT

      If the connector is not connected securely, reconnect the connector and proceed to the next inspection.

    4. Disconnect the connector from the clock assembly*1 or integration control and panel assembly*2
    5. Check that the terminal of the connector is not damaged.

      OK: The terminal is not deformed or damaged. 

      HINT

      • *1 w/ Navigation system
      • *2 w/o Navigation system

    NG: REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    3. Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.

      OK: The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator does not come on. 

    NG: Go to step  5

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Turn the engine switch off
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds
    3. Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor assembly
    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
    5. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    6. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

    7. Turn the engine switch off.
    8. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds
    9. Check for DTCs (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  )

      OK: DTC B1660/43 is not output. 

      HINT.

      Codes other than DTC B1660/43 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check

    NG: REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK  (See DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM  )

  5. CHECK CONNECTOR 
    1. Turn the engine switch off
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds
    3. Check that the connector is properly connected to the clock assembly*1 or integration control and panel assembly*2.

      OK: The connector is properly connected. 

      HINT.

      If the connector is not connected securely, reconnect the connector and proceed to the next inspection.

    4. Disconnect the connector from the clock assembly*1 or integration control and panel assembly*2.
    5. Check that the terminal of the connector is not damaged

      OK: The terminal is not deformed or damaged. 

      HINT

      • *1 w/ Navigation system
      • *2: w/o Navigation system

    NG: REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (OPEN) 
    1. Using SST, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B

      NOTE: Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting.

      SST 09843-18040 

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      w/ Navigation System 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      J53-3 (PAON) - J53-9 (P-AB) Always Below 1 Ω

      w/o Navigation System 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      J54-6 (PAON) - J54-7 (P-AB) Always Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect SST from connector B

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard Resistance 

      w/ Navigation System 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      J53-3 (PAON) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      J53-9 (P-AB) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

      w/o Navigation System 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      J54-6 (PAON) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      J54-7 (P-AB) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG: REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      w/ Navigation System

      J53-3 (PAON) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V

    B: REPLACE CLOCK ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

    C: REPLACE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

    A: REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

  9. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the engine switch off
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds
    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and the clock assembly*1 or integration control and panel assembly*2

      OK: The connectors are properly connected. 

      HINT:

      If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection

    4. Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and the clock assembly*1 or integration control and panel assembly*2.
    5. Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged

      OK: The terminals are not deformed or damaged. 

      HINT

      • *1: w/ Navigation system
      • *2: w/o Navigation system

    NG: REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (OPEN) 
    1. Using SST, connect terminals 23 (PAON) and 17 (P-AB) of connector B.

      NOTE: Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting.

      SST 09843-18040 

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      w/ Navigation System

    NG: REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect SST from connector B

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard Resistance 

      w/ Navigation System

      J53-3 (PAON) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      J53-9 (P-AB) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG: REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard Voltage 

      w/ Navigation System

      J53-3 (PAON) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) Below 1 V

    NG: REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  13. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR (SOURCE VOLTAGE) 
    1. Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor assembly
    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal
    3. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard Voltage 

      w/ Navigation System 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      J53-11 (IG+) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 8 to 16 V

      w/o Navigation System

    NG: REPLACE WIRE HARNESS OR BATTERY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  14. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR 
    1. Turn the engine switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
    3. Connect the connector to the clock assembly*1 or integration control and panel assembly*2

      HINT.

      • *1. w/ Navigation system
      • *2. w/o Navigation system
    4. Disconnect the connector from the center airbag sensor assembly
    5. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal
    6. Turn the engine switch on (IG)
    7. Check the indicator according to the conditions in the table below.

    B: REPLACE CLOCK ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

    C: REPLACE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

    A: Go to next step 

  15. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Turn the engine switch off
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds
    3. Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor assembly
    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal
    5. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds
    6. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).
    7. Turn the engine switch off
    8. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds
    9. Check for DTCs (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR  )

      OK: DTC B1660/43 is not output. 

      HINT

      Codes other than DTC B1660/43 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check

    NG: REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )
