Inspection Procedure
- CHECK DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0746 AND P0873)
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3
- Turn the engine switch on (IG)
- Turn the Techstream on.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Trouble Codes.
- Read the DTCs using the Techstream

RESULT REFERENCEDisplay (DTC Output) Proceed to Only P0746 and P0873 are output A P0746, P0873 and other DTCs are output B HINT:
If any other codes besides P0746 and P0873 are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first
B: GO TO DTC CHART (See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART )
A: Go to next Step
- READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (TPS 1 SW SIGNAL)
- Connect terminals TPS1 and E1 of the TCM connectors.
HINT:
Before checking, perform visual and contact pressure checks on the TCM connectors.
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3
- Turn the engine switch on (IG).
- Turn the Techstream on.
- Enter the following menus. Powertrain / ECT / Data List.
- Read the value displayed on the Techstream.
Standard
STANDARD SPECIFICATIONTester Display Condition TPS 1 Switch ON Gear is 1st to 5th TPS 1 Switch OFF Gear is 6th to 8th; or shift lever is in P, N or R
NG: Go to step 4
OK: Go to next Step
- Connect terminals TPS1 and E1 of the TCM connectors.
- REPLACE TCM
- Replace the TCM (See REMOVAL ).
NEXT: PERFORM A/T CODE REGISTRATION (See REGISTRATION )
- CHECK OIL PRESSURE SWITCH CIRCUIT
- Turn the engine switch off.
HINT:
Before checking, perform visual and contact pressure checks on the TCM connectors.
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance

- Disconnect the TCM connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

NG: Go to step 9
OK: Go to next Step
- REPLACE TCM
- Replace the TCM (See REMOVAL )
NEXT: PERFORM A/T CODE REGISTRATION (See REGISTRATION )
- INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL1
- Remove the shift solenoid valve SL1 (See DISASSEMBLY ).
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONTester Connection Condition Specified Condition Terminal 1 of the shift solenoid valve SL1 -terminal 2 20°C (68°F) 5.0 to 5.6 Ω - Connect a battery positive (+) lead with a 21 W bulb to terminal 2 and a negative (-) lead to terminal 1 of the solenoid valve connector. Then check that the valve moves and makes an operating sound.
OK: Valve moves and makes an operating sound.
NG: REPLACE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SL1 (See DISASSEMBLY )
OK: Go to next Step
- INSPECT TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY
- Check the transmission valve body assembly (See DISASSEMBLY
).
OK: There are no foreign objects on any valve.
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- Check the transmission valve body assembly (See DISASSEMBLY
).
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION WIRE - TCM)
- Disconnect the transmission wire connector.
- Disconnect the TCM connector
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONTester Connection Condition Specified Condition E47-17 (TPS1) - E59-9 (TPS1) Always Below 1 Ω E47-17 (TPS1) or E59-9 (TPS1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next Step
- INSPECT TRANSMISSION WIRE (OIL PRESSURE SWITCH)
- Disconnect the oil pressure switch connector (See REMOVAL )
- Disconnect the transmission wire connector
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONTester Connection Condition Specified Condition Oil pressure switch connector-17 (TPS1) Always Below 1 Ω Oil pressure switch connector or 17 (TPS1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE TRANSMISSION WIRE (See REMOVAL )
OK: REPLACE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH (See DISASSEMBLY )
