Inspection Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Toyota 4Runner. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
When replacing the master cylinder solenoid, perform zero point calibration (See CALIBRATION
).
- READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (ACCUMULATOR PRESSURE SENSOR)
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch off.
- Depress the brake pedal more than 20 times.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and push the hand-held tester main switch ON.
- Select "DATA LIST" mode on the hand-held tester.ITEMS NORMAL CONDITION TABLE
Item Measurement Item/Range (Display) Normal Condition Diagnostic Note ACC PRESS Accumulator pressure sensor reading/min.: 0 V, max.: 5 V 3.58 to 5 V If the value is constant regardless of pump operation, accumulator pressure sensor malfunction is suspected - Check the accumulator output value.
Result:
RESULT REFERENCEOutput value is within the "Normal Condition" range A Output value is out of the "Normal Condition" range B Output value is constant regardless of pump operation B
B: REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID (See OVERHAUL
A: Go to next step
- READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER (MASTER CYLINDER PRESSURE SENSOR)
- Turn the ignition switch off.
- Depress the brake pedal more than 20 times.
- Install the brake pedal effort gauge (SST), and bleed air.

- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and push the hand-held tester main switch ON.
- Select "DATA LIST" mode on the hand-held tester.ITEMS NORMAL CONDITION TABLE
Item Measurement Item/Range (Display) Normal Condition Diagnostic Note MAS CYL PRESS 1 Master cylinder pressure sensor 1 reading/min.: 0 V, max.: 5 V 0.3 to 1.95 V
With pedal effort of 49 N (5 kgf, 11 in..lbf)Front brake pressure: 1220 to 2320 kPa (11.4 to 23.7 kgf/cm2 , 162 to 337 psi) - Check that the master cylinder pressure sensor's output value is normal.
OK: Master cylinder pressure sensor value is normal.
NG: REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER SOLENOID (See OVERHAUL )
OK: Go to next step
- RECONFIRM DTC
- Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
- Turn the ignition switch off.
- Depress the brake pedal more than 20 times.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Wait until the pump motor stops.
- Depress the brake pedal and release it.
- Wait for 25 minutes.
- Check if the same DTC is detected (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR
).
