STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (for 3GR-FSE): Removal

  1. PRECAUTION 
  2. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 

    (See PRECAUTION )

  4. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH FRONT (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  5. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  6. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  7. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  8. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  9. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  10. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUBASSEMBLY NO.1 (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  11. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUBASSEMBLY NO.1 (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  12. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY LOWER NO.1 (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  13. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.2 (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  14. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO.3 (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  15. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL PAD (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  16. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut.
    2. Put matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and main shaft assembly.
    3. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.

      SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05011)

  17. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Remove the 3 screws.
    2. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the steering column cover lower.
      NOTE: Do not damage the tilt & telescopic switch.

    3. Disengage the 4 clips to separate the steering column cover upper.
    4. Disengage the claw to remove the steering column cover upper.

  18. REMOVE TILT AND TELESCOPIC SWITCH 
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claw and pull out the tilt and telescopic switch.
      NOTE: Pushing on the claw too hard will break the claw.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  19. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the clamp and turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.
  20. REMOVE AIR DUCT NO.1 
    1. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the air duct No.1.

  21. SEPARATE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY NO.2 (for 2WD) 
    1. Loosen bolt (A) and remove bolt (B), then slide the steering intermediate shaft assembly No.2.

      HINT:

      • Do not remove bolt (A).
      • Do not disconnect the steering intermediate shaft assembly No.2 from the power steering link assembly.

    2. Put matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke subassembly and the power steering link assembly.
    3. Separate the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly from the power steering link assembly.

    4. Put matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke subassembly and the steering intermediate shaft assembly No.2.
    5. Remove the bolt and the steering sliding yoke subassembly from the steering intermediate shaft assembly No.2.

  22. SEPARATE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY NO.2 (for 4WD) 
    1. Remove the bolt, and then slide the steering intermediate shaft assembly No.2.

      HINT:

      Do not disconnect the steering intermediate shaft assembly No.2 from the power steering link assembly.

    2. Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly No.2 and the power steering link assembly.
    3. Separate the intermediate shaft assembly No.2 from the power steering link assembly.

  23. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and separate the steering intermediate shaft assembly No.2.
    2. Disconnect the connectors and wire harness clamps.

    3. Remove the 4 nuts and steering column assembly from the instrument panel reinforcement assembly.

  24. REMOVE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY NO.2 
    1. Remove the clamp from the steering column hole shield.
    2. Remove the steering intermediate shaft assembly No.2.
