Water Pump: Installation

  1. INSTALL WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install a new gasket and the water pump with the 16 bolts.

      Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf) for bolt A 9.1 N*m (93 kgf*cm, 81 in.*lbf) for bolts B and C 

      NOTE:
      • Be sure to replace the 2 C bolts with new ones or reuse them after applying adhesive 1344.
      • Make sure that there is no oil on the threads of bolt A.

  2. INSTALL NO. 2 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the V-ribbed belt tensioner pulley and cover plate with the bolt.

      Torque: 43 N*m (438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf) 

      CAUTION: Be careful when tightening the bolt because it is left-hand threaded.

    2. Install the pulley and cover plate with the bolt.

      Torque: 43 N*m (438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf)

  3. INSTALL WATER INLET ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install a new gasket to the water inlet housing.
    2. Install a new O-ring to the water outlet pipe.

    3. Install the water inlet with the 4 bolts and nut.

      Torque: 10 N*m (192 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE: Be careful not to allow the O-ring to get caught between other parts.

    4. Connect the 5 hoses.

    5. Connect the 2 radiator hoses.
  4. ADD ENGINE COOLANT (see   6  ) 
  5. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS 
    1. Check for engine coolant leaks (see ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ).

  6. INSTALL WATER PUMP PULLEY 
    1. Temporarily install the pulley with the 4 bolts.
    2. Using SST, hold the pulley and tighten the 4 bolts.

      SST 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-00700) 

      Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)

  7. INSTALL INJECTOR DRIVER (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  8. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE COVER (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  9. INSTALL NO. 2 ENGINE COVER 
    1. Install the cover with the 3 nuts.

  10. INSTALL V-RIBBED BELT (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  11. INSTALL V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the cover with the 2 nuts.

      Torque: 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 ft.*lbf) 

  12. INSTALL NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET 
    1. Install the inlet with the bolt.

      Torque: 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) 

  13. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  14. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER (See  INSTALLATION  ) 
  15. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  16. PERFORM INITIALIZATION 
    1. Perform initialization (see INITIALIZATION ).
      NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
