Inspection Procedure

  1. PERFORM PRE-CHECK 
    1. Check that all of the following conditions for not illuminating the brake warning light are satisfied.
      1. The ABS warning light is off.
      2. The amount of the brake fluid is between the min. line and max. line of the brake master cylinder reservoir.
      3. The parking brake pedal is fully released.

    NEXT: GO TO NEXT STEP. 

  2. CHECK DTC FOR ABS 
    1. Check if the DTCs are recorded. (See PRE-CHECK  )

    NO: Go to step 3. 

    YES: REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT CODE 

  3. INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT 

    WHEN USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the item "BRAKE WARN LIGHT" in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the BRAKE warning light on the hand-held tester.
    4. Check that "ON" and "OFF" of the BRAKE warning light can be shown on the combination meter with the hand-held tester.

    WHEN NOT USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Turn the ignition switch off and disconnect the connector S1 from the skid control ECU.
    2. Ground the terminal BRL of the skid control ECU.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    5. Check that the brake warning light goes off.

    NG: Go to step   6 . 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  4. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Remove the parking brake switch.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      P6-1 - Ground part Released Below 1 Ω
      P6-1 - Ground part Pushed in 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  5. CHECK HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector S1 and the parking brake switch connector P6.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S1-28 (PKB) - P6-1 (PKB) Below 1 Ω
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH - BODY GROUND RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH - BODY GROUND RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S1-28 (PKB) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: REPLACE ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  6. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Remove the parking brake switch.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      P6-1 - Ground part Released Below 1 Ω
      Pushed in 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  7. CHECK HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector S1 and the parking brake switch connector P6.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S1-28 (PKB) - P6-1 (PKB) Below 1 Ω
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH - BODY GROUND RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH - BODY GROUND RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S1-28 (PKB) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  8. INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH 
    1. Remove the reservoir tank cap and strainer.
    2. Disconnect the brake fluid level warning switch connector B1.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      (B1-1) - (B1-2) Float UP More than 10 kΩ
      Float DOWN Less than 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  9. CHECK HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH-COMBINATION METER) 
    1. Disconnect the combination meter connector C8 and the brake fluid level warning switch connector B1.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH-COMBINATION METER RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH-COMBINATION METER RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      (C8-8) - (B1-1) Less than 1 Ω
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH-COMBINATION METER - BODY GROUND RESISTANCE  .

      Standard: 

      BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH-COMBINATION METER - BODY GROUND RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      (C8-8) - Body ground More than 10 kΩ

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (See  COMBINATION METER ASSY  )
