Inspection Procedure
- PERFORM PRE-CHECK
- Check that all of the following conditions for not illuminating the brake warning light are satisfied.
- The ABS warning light is off.
- The amount of the brake fluid is between the min. line and max. line of the brake master cylinder reservoir.
- The parking brake pedal is fully released.
NEXT: GO TO NEXT STEP.
- Check that all of the following conditions for not illuminating the brake warning light are satisfied.
- CHECK DTC FOR ABS
- Check if the DTCs are recorded. (See PRE-CHECK )
NO: Go to step 3.
YES: REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT CODE
- INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT
WHEN USING HAND-HELD TESTER:
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Start the engine.
- Select the item "BRAKE WARN LIGHT" in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the BRAKE warning light on the hand-held tester.
- Check that "ON" and "OFF" of the BRAKE warning light can be shown on the combination meter with the hand-held tester.
WHEN NOT USING HAND-HELD TESTER:
- Turn the ignition switch off and disconnect the connector S1 from the skid control ECU.
- Ground the terminal BRL of the skid control ECU.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Check that the brake warning light goes off.

NG: Go to step 6 .
OK: Go to next step.
- INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY
- Remove the parking brake switch.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY RESISTANCE

Standard:
PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY RESISTANCETester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition P6-1 - Ground part Released Below 1 Ω P6-1 - Ground part Pushed in 10 kΩ or higher
NG: REPAIR PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY
OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH)
- Disconnect the skid control ECU connector S1 and the parking brake switch connector P6.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH RESISTANCE
.
Standard:
SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH RESISTANCETester Connection Specified Condition S1-28 (PKB) - P6-1 (PKB) Below 1 Ω - Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH - BODY GROUND RESISTANCE

- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
- OK: REPLACE ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSY (See REPLACEMENT )
- INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY
- Remove the parking brake switch.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY RESISTANCE

Standard:

OK: Go to next step.

- Remove the reservoir tank cap and strainer.
- Disconnect the brake fluid level warning switch connector B1.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH RESISTANCE

Standard:
BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH RESISTANCETester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition (B1-1) - (B1-2) Float UP More than 10 kΩ Float DOWN Less than 1 Ω
NG: REPLACE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH
OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH-COMBINATION METER)
- Disconnect the combination meter connector C8 and the brake fluid level warning switch connector B1.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH-COMBINATION METER RESISTANCE
