Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC FOR ABS 
    1. Check if other DTCs are recorded. (See PRE-CHECK  )

    NO: Go to step 2 

    YES: REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT CODE 

  2. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR SECURELY CONNECTED (See  HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT ECU CONTROLLED SYSTEMS  ) 

    NG: CONNECT CONNECTOR TO ECU 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 

  3. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU TERMINAL VOLTAGE (IG1 TERMINAL) 

    WHEN USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the DATA LIST mode on the hand-held tester.
    4. Check the voltage condition output from the ECU displayed on the hand-held tester.

    OK: "Normal" is displayed. 

    WHEN NOT USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector S1.

    3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in Fig 2 .

    Standard:

    NG: Go to step   5 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 

  4. INSPECT ABS WARNING LIGHT 

    WHEN USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3 and start the engine.
    2. Select the item "ABS WARN LIGHT" in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the ABS warning light on the hand-held tester.
    3. Check that "ON" and "OFF" of the ABS warning light can be shown on the combination meter by the hand-held tester.

    WHEN NOT USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Turn the ignition switch off and disconnect the connector S1 from the skid control ECU.

    2. Ground the terminal WA of the skid control ECU.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    4. Check that the ABS warning light goes off.

    OK: CHECK AND REPAIR ABS WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT 

    NG: REPLACE ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector S1.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in Fig 5 .

    Standard:

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP. 

  6. INSPECT BATTERY 
    1. Check the battery positive voltage.

    OK: Voltage: 10 to 14 V 

    NG: INSPECT CHARGING SYSTEM (See  IGNITION SYSTEM (3MZ-FE)  ) 

    OK: CHECK AND REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - IG1 TERMINAL)
