Rear Differential Front Oil Seal (4WD): Replacement

  1. DRAIN HYPOID GEAR OIL 
    1. Torque: 49 N.m (500 kgf.cm, 36 ft.lbf) 
  2. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  3. REMOVE COMPANION FLANGE 
    1. Using a chisel and hammer, unstake the staked part of the nut.

    2. Using SST to hold the flange, remove the nut.
      1. SST 09330-00021

    3. Using SST, remove the companion flange.
      1. SST 09950-30012 (09951-03010, 09953-03010, 09954-03010, 09955-03030, 09956-03020)

  4. REMOVE FRONT OIL SEAL AND OIL SLINGER 
    1. Using SST, remove the oil seal.
      1. SST 09308-10010
    2. Remove the oil slinger.

  5. REMOVE FRONT BEARING AND BEARING SPACER 
    1. Using SST, remove the front bearing.
      1. SST 09556-22010
    2. Remove the bearing spacer.
  6. INSTALL NEW BEARING SPACER AND FRONT BEARING 
    1. Install a new bearing spacer on the shaft.
    2. Install the front bearing on the shaft.
  7. INSTALL OIL SLINGER AND NEW OIL SEAL 
    1. Install the oil slinger.
    2. Using SST, install a new oil seal.
      1. SST 09554-22010
      2. Oil seal drive in depth: 2.0 mm (0.079 in.) 
    3. Coat MP grease to the oil seal lip.

  8. INSTALL COMPANION FLANGE 
    1. Using SST, install the companion flange on the shaft.
      1. SST 09950-30012 (09951-03010, 09953-03010, 09954-03010, 09955-03030, 09956-03020)
    2. Coat the threads of a new nut with hypoid gear oil.

    3. Using SST to hold the flange, torque the nut.
      1. SST 09330-00021
      2. Torque: 108 N.m (1,100 kgf.cm, 80 ft.lbf) 
  9. ADJUST DRIVE PINION PRELOAD (See  REASSEMBLY  ) 
  10. STAKE DRIVE PINION NUT 
  11. INSTALL PROPELLER SHAFT (See  INSTALLATION  )

  12. FILL DIFFERENTIAL WITH HYPOID GEAR OIL 
    1. Torque: 49 N.m (500 kgf.cm, 36 ft.lbf) 
    2. Oil grade: Hypoid gear oil API GL-5 
    3. Recommended oil viscosity: 
    4. Above-18°C(0°F)SAE 90 
    5. Below -18°C (0°F) SAE 80W or 80W-90 
    6. Capacity: 0.9 +/- 0.05 liters (0.95 +/- 0.05 US qts, 0.79 +/- 0.04 Imp. qts)
