Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Circuit

NOTE: Begin testing with step 2) if Lexus Hand-Held Tester (scan tool) is not available.
  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector No. 3 (DLC3). Turn ignition on. Turn scan tool on and select ACTIVE TEST mode. If gauge tests properly, check engine coolant temperature sensor. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Repair as necessary. If engine coolant temperature sensor is okay, go to next step.
  2. Check engine coolant temperature gauge. See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE  under COMPONENT TESTS. Repair as necessary. If engine coolant temperature gauge is okay, go to next step.
  3. Check engine coolant temperature sensor. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Repair as necessary. If engine coolant temperature sensor is okay, go to next step.
  4. Check instrument cluster circuit plate. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under COMPONENT TESTS. Repair as necessary. If instrument cluster circuit plate is okay, check and repair instrument cluster circuit. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CIRCUIT .
