ACTION |
|
NOTE:
Engine temperature gauge display moves from normal to high and back to normal when the vehicle has been driven for approximately 10 miles. 'Stop safely. Engine overheating' is displayed on the Instrument Cluster. |
NOTE:
When checking the coolant level it is at the correct level with no sign of coolant loss and no related DTC
stored in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM
software level. |
Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment update the PCM
software level. |
|
|
- Coolant leak
- Hoses
- Hose connections
- Radiator
- Coolant pump
- Heater core
- Gaskets
- Engine casting cracks
- Cylinder block core plugs
|
- Perform a visual inspection. If there are no obvious leaks, perform a cooling system pressure test. Rectify any leaks as necessary
|
|
|
- Low/contaminated coolant
- Thermostat stuck closed
- Cooling fan failure
- Radiator airflow restricted
- Engine management system fault
|
- Inspect the coolant level and condition. Complete a cooling system pressure test. Rectify as necessary
- Inspect the thermostat and rectify as necessary
- Inspect the operation of the viscous fan. Rectify as necessary
- Inspect the radiator for obstructions to the airflow. Rectify as necessary.
- Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, check the powertrain control module for related DTC
s and refer to the relevant DTC
index
|
- Engine not reaching normal temperature
|
- Thermostat stuck open
- Cooling fan failure
|
- Inspect the thermostat and rectify as necessary
- Inspect the operation of the viscous fan. Rectify as necessary
|
- No or low coolant flow in the cooling system with the following DTC
s set
- P023A
- P023B
- P023C
- P2B83
- P2B84
- P026E
- P2BC2
|
- Low coolant or coolant flow restriction
- Poor or damaged wiring or connections
- Water ingress in to the wiring harness or connectors
- Fuse failure
- Powertrain control module or calibration fault
- Power supply. Battery, charging system or ground fault
- Variable coolant pump failure
|
- Complete the variable coolant pump pinpoint test in this section. GO to Pinpoint Test A .
