Valve Cover (G2523510): Removal
- If the vehicle has been powered down, do not power up the vehicle until all the bonding points have been tested.
- It is the responsibility of the Electric Vehicle Senior Authorized Person (EVSAP) to make sure they comply with any local legislation for work on High Voltage (HV).
- The approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn where indicated within this procedure and not removed unless indicated within a step. All items of PPE must be checked for signs of damage before each use, if damaged, replacement PPE must be obtained before doing this procedure.
- All Permit To Work (PTW) documents must be kept for a minimum of 5 years.
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2-post lift.

This procedure involves work on components associated with the HV system. Only technicians qualified to EVCP level or higher are allowed to do this procedure. It is mandated that all technicians involved with the steps in this procedure have read and understood the Electric Vehicle (EV) Safety Rules.

Power Down the HV system. Only technicians qualified to Electric Vehicle Authorized Person (EVAP) level are allowed to perform this procedure. It is mandated that all technicians involved with the steps in this procedure have read and understood the EV Safety Rules.

The following step(s) applies to:

- Disconnect the 12V system.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
- Remove the Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) unit.
Refer to: VARIABLE CAMSHAFT TIMING UNIT .
- Remove the Continuous Variable Valve Lift (CVVL) assembly.
Refer to: CONTINUOUS VARIABLE VALVE LIFT .
- Remove the fuel injectors.
Refer to: FUEL INJECTORS .
- Remove the engine vent oil separator.
Refer to: VALVE COVER VENT OIL SEPARATOR .
- Remove the evaporative emission canister purge valve.
Refer to: EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CANISTER PURGE VALVE (G2034092) .
- Remove the High Pressure (HP) fuel pump.
Refer to: HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (G2043272) .

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV)
- Remove the coolant pump drive belt.
Refer to: ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT .
The following step(s) applies to:

- Remove the accessory drive belt.
Refer to: ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT .
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Release the clip.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Remove the bolt.
- Release the 4 clips.
Release the oil temperature sensor connector clip.
- Disconnect the 5 electrical connectors.
- Remove the bolt.
- Reposition the wiring harness away from the valve cover assembly.
- Remove the engine cover support mount.
- Remove the 2 retaining studs and reposition the coolant bypass hose away from the valve cover assembly.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the engine lifting bracket.
- Remove the 19 bolts.
- Remove the valve cover assembly.
- Remove and discard the valve cover gasket.

NOTE: Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the intake Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP).
- Remove the exhaust CMP .
- Inspect the O-ring seals, install a new component if damaged.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the oil filler pipe.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seal.

NOTE: Make sure the components are marked according to their installed position prior to removal.
- Release the 20 camshaft bearing cap bolts evenly 1 turn at a time.
- Remove the 20 camshaft bearing cap bolts.
- Remove the 10 camshaft bearing caps.

NOTE: Make sure the components are marked according to their installed position prior to removal.
- Remove the 2 camshafts.
- Inspect the components and renew if damaged or worn.
