Cylinder Head (G2523494): Removal
- If the vehicle has been powered down, do not power up the vehicle until all the bonding points have been tested.
- It is the responsibility of the Electric Vehicle Senior Authorized Person (EVSAP) to make sure they comply with any local legislation for work on High Voltage (HV).
- The approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn where indicated within this procedure and not removed unless indicated within a step. All items of PPE must be checked for signs of damage before each use, if damaged, replacement PPE must be obtained before doing this procedure.
- All Permit To Work (PTW) documents must be kept for a minimum of 5 years.
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

This procedure involves work on components associated with the HV system. Only technicians qualified to EVCP level or higher are allowed to do this procedure. It is mandated that all technicians involved with the steps in this procedure have read and understood the Electric Vehicle (EV) Safety Rules.

Power Down the HV system. Only technicians qualified to Electric Vehicle Authorized Person (EVAP) level are allowed to perform this procedure. It is mandated that all technicians involved with the steps in this procedure have read and understood the EV Safety Rules.

electrical connectors.

The following step(s) applies to:

- Disconnect the 12V system.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
- Remove the oil filter element.
Refer to: OIL FILTER ELEMENT .
- Remove the intake manifold.
Refer to: INTAKE MANIFOLD (G2029661) .
- Remove the turbocharger.
Refer to: TURBOCHARGER .
- Remove the valve cover.
Refer to: VALVE COVER .
Release the oil temperature sensor connector clip.
- Disconnect the 5 electrical connectors.
- Remove the bolt.
- Reposition the wiring harness away from the valve cover assembly.
- Release the clip.
- Remove the oil temperature sensor.

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.
- Release the coolant hose clamp.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the coolant pipe assembly.

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping oil.
- Remove the 3 bolts.
- Remove the oil filter housing.
- Remove and discard the 5 O-ring seals.

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the coolant intake pipe.
Remove the front Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) pad.
Remove the side NVH pad.

CAUTION: Do not squeeze hydraulic valve tappet chambers together.NOTE: Mark the components according to their installed positions prior to removal.
- Prior to removal mark each roller finger camshaft follower and hydraulic valve tappet according to their installed position.
- Remove the 8 roller finger camshaft follower hydraulic valve tappet assemblies.
- Invert the hydraulic valve tappets to prevent oil loss.
Remove the 3 bolts.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the engine lifting bracket.

WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.CAUTION:
- Bolts must be released in the sequence illustrated.
- Take extra care not to damage the edges of the component.
- Take extra care not to damage the surrounding components.
- Use the special tool to loosen the 11 cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown.
Install the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1653
- Remove and discard the 11 cylinder head bolts.
- With the aid of another technician remove the cylinder head.

NOTE: Discard the gasket.
Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.

CAUTION: Make sure that the dowels and dowel holes are clean and free from debris and foreign material.
Remove the 2 cylinder head locating dowels.

CAUTION: Only use a plastic scraper to clean off the old gasket.
With a suitable plastic tool, clean and inspect the cylinder head and cylinder block mating surfaces.
