Pinpoint Test K: Tailgate Latch Does Not Clasp
- K1: TAILGATE LATCH DOES NOT CLASP
- With the tailgate in the open position, check the claw position of the latch.
Is the latch claw in the fully open position?
Yes: GO to K2.
No: Operate a release switch, open the latch and repeat the test.
- With the tailgate in the open position, check the claw position of the latch.
- K2: TAILGATE LATCH DOES NOT CLASP
- Manually operating the tailgate to an almost closed position, check the alignment of the striker to the latch.
Is the striker central to the latch throat?
Yes: GO to K3.
No: GO to PINPOINT TEST H .
- Manually operating the tailgate to an almost closed position, check the alignment of the striker to the latch.
- K3: TAILGATE LATCH DOES NOT CLASP
- With the tailgate in an open position manually operate the latch claw to the second clasp position.
Does the latch claw rotate to the second clasp position and hold?
Yes: GO to PINPOINT TEST E .
No: GO to K4.
- With the tailgate in an open position manually operate the latch claw to the second clasp position.
- K4: TAILGATE LATCH DOES NOT CLASP NOTE: Latch in actuated position (fully cinched)
- Refer to the relevant service information and remove the tailgate trim for access to the tailgate latch. Refer to: TAILGATE TRIM PANEL .
- Check the position of the cinch actuator lever on the latch.
Is the cinch actuator lever actuated?
Yes: GO to K5.
No: GO to K6.
- K5: TAILGATE LATCH DOES NOT CLASP
- Remove the soft close cable
Does the position of the cinch actuator lever travel further to the rest position?
Yes: GO to PINPOINT TEST E , step 4
No: Install a new tailgate latch assembly as necessary due to internal mechanical failure.
- Remove the soft close cable
- K6: TAILGATE LATCH DOES NOT CLASP NOTE: The purpose of the snow load lever is to stop the tailgate latch from re-latching if the tailgate is held closed, for example by a snow load.NOTE: Snow load lever activatedNOTE: Snow load lever not activated
- Check the position of the snow load lever.
Is the snow load lever stuck in the activated position?
Yes: Install a new tailgate latch assembly as necessary due to internal mechanical failure.
No: Contact Jaguar Land Rover Technical Assistance with all of the above findings and information.
- Check the position of the snow load lever.
