Pinpoint Test A: Power Tailgate Functionality Test
- A1: POWER TAILGATE
- With the tailgate in the closed position, press the exterior release switch.
Does the tailgate latch release?
Yes: GO to A2.
- With the tailgate in the closed position, press the exterior release switch.

- After the tailgate latch is released, the tailgate should power open.
Does the tailgate power open?
Yes: GO to A3.
- After the tailgate latch is released, the tailgate should power open.

- The tailgate should power open to the garage setting (programed) height or the full opening height.
Does the power tailgate open to the garage setting or full opening height?
Yes: GO to A4.
- The tailgate should power open to the garage setting (programed) height or the full opening height.
- A4: POWER TAILGATE
- Clear the garage opening height setting (if programed). With the tailgate in the closed position press the exterior release switch. The expected tailgate opening speed and behavior is, accelerate to a consistent speed, then slows down, stops and does not drop. This applies only to a full opening height of the tailgate, not the programed garage height opening.
Does the tailgate open as expected?
Yes: GO to A5.
- Clear the garage opening height setting (if programed). With the tailgate in the closed position press the exterior release switch. The expected tailgate opening speed and behavior is, accelerate to a consistent speed, then slows down, stops and does not drop. This applies only to a full opening height of the tailgate, not the programed garage height opening.
- A5: POWER TAILGATE
- With the tailgate in the open position, press the close switch on the tailgate to close the tailgate.
Does the tailgate begin to close under powered operation?
Yes: GO to A6.
- With the tailgate in the open position, press the close switch on the tailgate to close the tailgate.
- A6: POWER TAILGATE
- Observe the tailgate, the tailgate should close to the first latch position.
Does the tailgate close to the first latch position?
Yes: GO to A7.
- Observe the tailgate, the tailgate should close to the first latch position.
- A7: POWER TAILGATE
- Observe the tailgate soft close action, this should latch from the first latch position to the second latch position.
Does the soft close mechanism latch to the second position?
Yes: GO to A8.
- Observe the tailgate soft close action, this should latch from the first latch position to the second latch position.
- A8: POWER TAILGATE
- With the tailgate in the fully closed position, using the smart key press the tailgate button.
Does the tailgate latch release?
Yes: GO to A9.
- With the tailgate in the fully closed position, using the smart key press the tailgate button.
- A9: POWER TAILGATE
- Observe the tailgate, the tailgate should begin to power open.
Does the tailgate begin to open under powered operation?
Yes: GO to A10.
- Observe the tailgate, the tailgate should begin to power open.

- With the tailgate in the open position, using the smart key press the tailgate button.
Does the tailgate begin to power close?
Yes: GO to A11.
- With the tailgate in the open position, using the smart key press the tailgate button.

- Observe the tailgate, the tailgate should begin to power close and the soft close mechanism will engage from the first to the second latch position.
Does the tailgate latch fully close?
Yes: GO to A12.
- Observe the tailgate, the tailgate should begin to power close and the soft close mechanism will engage from the first to the second latch position.

- With the tailgate fully closed, press the interior tailgate release switch on the instrument panel.
Does the tailgate latch release?
Yes: GO to A13.
- With the tailgate fully closed, press the interior tailgate release switch on the instrument panel.

- Observe the tailgate, the tailgate should begin to power open.
Does the tailgate begin to open under powered operation?
Yes: GO to A14.
- Observe the tailgate, the tailgate should begin to power open.

- With the tailgate in the open position, press the interior tailgate release switch on the instrument panel.
Does the tailgate begin to power close?
Yes: GO to A15.
- With the tailgate in the open position, press the interior tailgate release switch on the instrument panel.

- Observe the tailgate, the tailgate should begin to power close and the soft close mechanism will engage from the first to the second latch position.
Does the tailgate latch fully close?
Yes: GO to A24.
- Observe the tailgate, the tailgate should begin to power close and the soft close mechanism will engage from the first to the second latch position.
- A16: POWER TAILGATE NOTE: To operate the hands-free tailgate, approach the vehicle, and perform a smooth kick and return motion within one of the vehicle's two sensor areas.
- Check if the vehicle is equipped with hands-free tailgate. If equipped, with the tailgate in the fully closed position use the gesture motion on the right to open the tailgate.
Does the tailgate latch release?
Yes: GO to A17.
- Check if the vehicle is equipped with hands-free tailgate. If equipped, with the tailgate in the fully closed position use the gesture motion on the right to open the tailgate.
- A17: POWER TAILGATE
- Observe the tailgate, the tailgate should begin to power open.
Does the tailgate begin to open under powered operation?
Yes: GO to A18.
- Observe the tailgate, the tailgate should begin to power open.

- With the tailgate in the open position, use the gesture motion on the right to close the tailgate.

Are any tailgate operation related Diagnostic Trouble Code(s) present?
Yes: GO to PINPOINT TEST B .
