Pinpoint Test J: Power Tailgate Does Not Close

  1. J1: TAILGATE DROP TEST
NOTE: A 5 mm drop measured at the tip of the tailgate from the fully opened position is acceptable.
    1. With the tailgate in a fully closed position, operate a release switch and observe the operation of the tailgate when fully open.

Does the tailgate drop more than 5 mm after opening?

Yes:  GO to PINPOINT TEST H .

      No:  GO to  J2.

  2. J2: POWER TAILGATE ANTI-TRAP SENSOR TESTING
    1. Inspect the anti-trap sensors on both sides of the tailgate, paying particular attention to the ends of the anti-trap strip.

Is there evidence of abrasion/wear and tear?

Yes:  Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, check live data signal - Anti Pinch seals voltage (0xD902) when the tailgate is opened and closed. If the signal indicates that the sensor is activated when the tailgate is in the open or closed position, check the drain trough finishes for correct installation and make sure there is adequate clearance. If the installation is correct and there is adequate clearance, install a new anti-trap sensor as necessary. Make sure clearance is achieved after installing a new anti-trap sensor.

      No:  GO to  J3.

  3. J3: POWER TAILGATE ANTI-TRAP SENSOR TESTING
    1. Inspect the end of the anti-trap sensors on both sides of the tailgate, where the wiring harness exits the sensor.

Is there evidence of damage or insulation break through?

Yes:  Install a new tailgate anti-trap sensor as necessary.

      No:  GO to  J4.

  4. J4: POWER TAILGATE ANTI-TRAP SENSOR TESTING
    1. Inspect the installation of the anti-trap sensors to the tailgate.

Are all of the clips fully engaged and the sensor securely located?

Yes:  GO to PINPOINT TEST I .

No:  If possible re-seat the anti-trap sensor correctly and check for correct operation. If not possible, install a new anti-trap sensor(s) as necessary.
