General Equipment

EQUIPMENT NAME
Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment
Transmission jack
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
    • Connect the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approve diagnostic equipment.

      General Equipment: Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment 

    • Run 'App Transfer Case Replacement'.
  2. Disconnect the 12 V system.

    Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS

  3. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING

  4. Partially drain the transfer case.

    Refer to: TRANSFER CASE PARTIAL DRAINING AND FILLING - INGENIUM I6 3.0L DIESEL 

  5. Remove the front driveshaft.

    Refer to: FRONT DRIVESHAFT

    Refer to: FRONT DRIVESHAFT

    Refer to: FRONT DRIVESHAFT

  6. Remove the rear driveshaft.

    Refer to: REAR DRIVESHAFT

    Refer to: REAR DRIVESHAFT

    Refer to: REAR DRIVESHAFT

    • Remove the bolt.
    • Reposition the ground cable away from the transfer case.

    • Remove the 4 bolts.
    • Remove the mount.

    • Remove the 4 bolts.
    • Remove the heatshield.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Remove the 3 wiring harness bracket bolts.
    • Release the 4 wiring harness clips.
    • Reposition the wiring harness away from the transfer case.

    Disconnect the breather pipe.

  12. WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.

    • Use a suitable transmission jack to support the transfer case.

      General Equipment: Transmission jack 

    • Use the special tool to remove the 8 bolts.

      Special Tool(s): 303-1069 

    • Remove the transfer case.
  13. NOTE: This step is only required if the original transfer case is being used.

    Remove and discard the seal.

  14. NOTE: Only do the following step(s), if a new component is to be installed.

    • Remove the 2 bolts.
    • Remove the transfer case mass damper.
