Timing Cover (G2131832): Removal

WARNING:
Cooling fans may continue to operate after the engine is turned off. They may also start to operate after the engine is turned off and continue operating for up to 10 minutes.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustration showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING
- Remove the accessory drive belt.
Refer to: ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT
- Release and reposition the center vacuum tubes.
- Release and reposition the right side vacuum tubes.
- Release the exhaust gas recirculation valve outlet tube.
- Release and reposition the left side vacuum tubes.
- Release the coolant hose.
- Remove the vacuum reservoir tank.

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.
Disconnect the coolant hoses from the engine outlet.
- Remove the vacuum reservoir tank bracket.
- Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner.
- Remove crankshaft vibration damper.

CAUTION: Discard the gasket.
Remove the right side upper timing cover.

CAUTION: Discard the gasket.
Remove the left side upper timing cover.
- Remove and discard the lower timing cover.
