Right Cylinder Head (G1779725): Removal

CAUTION: Extreme cleanliness must be exercised when handling these components. Make sure that all tools and the surrounding area is clean before commencing work.

NOTE:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
This procedure contains illustration showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING
Drain the cooling system.
Refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING AND VACUUM FILLING (G2131524) .
Remove the right side Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve.
Refer to: RIGHT EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE
Remove the right side exhaust manifold.
Refer to: RIGHT EXHAUST MANIFOLD
Remove the right side glow plugs.
Refer to: GLOW PLUGS
Remove the right side camshafts.
Refer to: RIGHT CAMSHAFT
Release the wiring harness.

CAUTION: Discard the O-ring seals.

Remove the coolant outlet manifold.
NOTE: Note the position of the components prior to removal.

Remove the valve rocker arms and hydraulic adjusters.
CAUTION: Discard the bolts.

Remove the cylinder head and cylinder head gasket.
Note the number of cutouts on the old cylinder head gasket. Make sure the correct new cylinder head gasket is installed.
