Left Camshaft (G2033429): Installation

Install the secondary timing chain onto the camshafts.

CAUTION: Make sure that the dots on the camshafts are aligned at the 12 o'clock position. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the engine.
NOTE:
- Lubricate the camshafts and the camshaft bearing caps with oil meeting JLR specification prior to installation.
- Use hypoid oil to lubricate the camshafts.

Install the left bank camshafts and secondary timing chain tensioner assembly.
Tighten the 2 bolts.

Torque : 10 Nm

- Apply Loctite 518 sealant to the exhaust camshaft seal bearing caps.
- Apply Loctite 518 sealant, 2 mm wide, to the rear left and front right camshaft bearing caps.
- Apply Loctite 518 sealant, 7 mm diameter, to the front left and rear right camshaft bearing caps.
NOTE: Tighten the bolts in the indicated sequence below.

- Install the 9 camshaft bearing caps in their original positions.
- Tighten the 18 camshaft bearing cap bolts.

  Bolts 1 - 14
  
  Stage 1: 1 Nm
  
  Stage 2: 5 Nm
  
  Stage 3: 10 Nm
  
  Bolts 15 - 18
  
  Stage 1: 1 Nm
  
  Stage 2: 5 Nm
  
  Stage 3: 10 Nm
Remove the secondary timing chain tensioner retaining pin.

CAUTION: Install a new seal.

Install the new seal on the special tool.

Special Tool(s): 303-1119

Renew Part: Camshaft seal Quantity: 1 .
CAUTION:
- A new camshaft front seal is supplied with a transit sleeve that must not be removed until the camshaft front seal is fully installed. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the vehicle.
- Do not use any lubricant on the camshaft front seal, transit sleeve or the camshaft. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the vehicle.
- Make sure the seal is installed correctly.
- Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of corrosion and foreign material.
NOTE: Make sure that the seal is 1 mm below the face of the cylinder head.

Using the special tool install the camshaft front seal.
Remove the special tool.

Using the special tool tighten the bolt.

Torque

Stage 1: 80 Nm

Stage 2: 80°
Remove the special tool from the camshaft pulley hub.

CAUTION: Only tighten the bolts finger tight at this stage.

- Install the front camshaft pulley.
- Tighten the 3 bolts.
CAUTION: Install a new seal.

Install the new seal on the special tool.

Special Tool(s): 303-1119

Renew Part: Camshaft seal Quantity: 1 .
CAUTION:
- Make sure the seal is installed correctly.
- Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of corrosion and foreign material.
- Do not use any lubricant on the camshaft rear seal or the camshaft. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the vehicle.
NOTE: Make sure that the seal is 1 mm below the face of the cylinder head.

Using the special tool install the camshaft rear seal.
Remove the special tool.

- Install the fuel pump belt cover.
- Tighten the 2 bolts.
  Torque : 10 Nm
Install the camshaft pulley hub.

- Install the rear camshaft pulley.
- Tighten the 3 bolts.
Install the new timing belt.
Refer to: TIMING BELT
Install the left valve cover.
Refer to: LEFT VALVE COVER
Install a new fuel pump belt.
Refer to: REAR END ACCESSORY DRIVE
Connect the startup battery ground cable.
