Upper Timing Cover (G2385450): Removal

CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

NOTE:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING
Remove the accessory drive belt.
Refer to: ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT
Remove the electric thermostat.
Refer to: ELECTRIC THERMOSTAT
Remove the High Pressure (HP) fuel rail supply line.
Refer to: FUEL RAIL SUPPLY PIPE

- Disconnect the 4 electrical connectors.
- Release the wiring harness clip.
- Remove the bolt.
- Reposition the wiring harness.

Remove the left accessory drive belt pulley cap.

- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the left accessory drive belt pulley.

- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the 2 Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) solenoids.
CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the component.

- Remove the 8 bolts.
- Use a suitable tool to pry the upper timing cover away at the location shown in the illustration.
- Remove the upper timing cover.
NOTE: This step is only required if a new component is to be installed.

- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the 2 Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) sensors.

- Disconnect the 4 electrical connectors.
- Release the 2 wiring harness clips.
- Remove the bolt.
- Reposition the wiring harness.

Remove the right accessory drive belt pulley cap.

- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the right accessory drive belt pulley.

- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the 2 VCT solenoids.

- Remove the 8 bolts.
- Use a suitable tool to pry the upper timing cover away at the location shown in the illustration.
- Remove the upper timing cover.
NOTE: This step is only required if a new component is to be installed.

- Remove the 2 CMP sensors.
