Right Cylinder Head (G2128211): Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Check the cylinder head for distortion.

    Refer to: CYLINDER HEAD DISTORTION

  2. WARNING: Make sure care is taken when handling the cylinder head gasket.
    CAUTION:
    • The cylinder head gasket must be installed over the cylinder block dowels.
    • Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

    • Install the new cylinder head gasket.

      Renew Part: Cylinder head gasket Quantity: 1  .

    • Install the cylinder head.
  3. CAUTION:
    • Make sure that new cylinder head bolts are installed.
    • Bolts must be Tightened in the sequence illustrated.

    1. Tighten the bolts 1 to 8 in the sequence shown.

      Install the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1653  , 303-1492 

      Renew Part: Cylinder head bolts Quantity: 8  .

      Torque  : 20 Nm 

    2. Tighten the bolts 1 to 8 in the sequence shown.

      Torque  : 35 Nm 

    3. Loosen bolt 1 then tighten.

      Torque  : 35 Nm 

    4. Loosen bolts 2 to 8 then tighten.

      Torque  : 35 Nm 

    5. Tighten bolts 1 to 8 in the sequence shown.

      Torque  : 90° 

    6. Tighten bolts 1 to 8 in the sequence shown.

      Torque  : 120° 

  4. Remove the special tools.

    Remove the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1653  , 303-1492

    Install the new cylinder head bolt.

    Renew Part: Cylinder head bolts Quantity: 1  .

    Torque  : 25 Nm 

  6. CAUTION: Bolts must be Tightened in the sequence illustrated.

    Install the new cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown.

    Renew Part: Cylinder head bolts Quantity: 2  .

    Torque  : 12 Nm 

  7. CAUTION:
    • If a new cylinder head has been installed then new tappets must be installed.
    • If the cylinder head is being removed without a new component being installed, the tappets must be installed in their original positions.

    Install the tappets. Lubricate with clean engine oil.

  8. Install the idler pulley.

    Torque  : 25 Nm 

  9. Install the oil filter housing. Install a new gasket.

    Renew Part: Oil filter housing gasket Quantity: 1  .

    Torque  : 12 Nm 

  10. Install a new oil filter.

    Renew Part: Oil filter Quantity: 1  .

  11. Install the air intake pipe support bracket.

    Torque  : 10 Nm 

  12. Install the engine coolant manifold. Install new seals.

    Renew Part: Engine coolant outlet upper O-ring seal Quantity: 2  .

    Torque  : 10 Nm 

    • Connect the 2 heater coolant hoses.
    • Connect and secure the coolant temperature sensor wiring harness.
  14. Secure the engine wiring harness.
  15. Install the knock sensor.

    Torque  : 20 Nm 

  16. Install the right camshaft.

    Refer to: RIGHT CAMSHAFT 

  17. Install the supercharger.

    Refer to: SUPERCHARGER

  18. Install the right exhaust manifold.

    Refer to: RIGHT EXHAUST MANIFOLD 

  19. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT

  20. Fill the cooling system.

    Refer to: COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING AND VACUUM FILLING (G2131524)
