Left Exhaust Manifold (G2063421): Removal

NOTE:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

The following step(s) applies to:

All vehicles

Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING
Remove the left catalytic converter.
Refer to: LEFT CATALYTIC CONVERTER
Remove the left engine mount.
Refer to: LEFT ENGINE MOUNT
Remove the Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor.
Refer to: AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR - V6 S/C 3.0L PETROL

- Remove the air conditioning pipe nut.
- Reposition the pipe away from the exhaust manifold.

The following step(s) applies to:

Vehicles with Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF)

- Remove the banjo bolt.
- Remove and discard the 2 gasoline particulate filter differential pressure sensor washers.
- Remove the 2 nuts from the bracket.
- Reposition the gasoline particulate filter differential pressure sensor away from the exhaust manifold.

All vehicles

- Remove the 4 exhaust manifold heatshield bolts.
- Remove the exhaust manifold heatshield.

- Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.
- Release the catalyst monitor sensor wiring from the 3 clips.

Use the special tool to remove the exhaust manifold bolts.

Install the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1652
NOTE: Make sure that the position of the spacers is noted before removal of the manifold.

- Remove and discard the 6 bolts and remove the 6 spacers.
- Remove the exhaust manifold and discard the gasket.
  Remove the Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1652
NOTE: Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

Using the special tool remove the catalyst monitor sensor.
