Valve Cover (G1817148): Removal

CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

NOTE:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
Remove the fuel rail.
Refer to: FUEL RAIL
Remove the fuel injectors.
Refer to: FUEL INJECTORS
Remove the upper timing chain.
Refer to: UPPER TIMING CHAIN - REMOVE FOR ACCESS

Remove the special tool and discard the bolt.

Remove the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.

Disconnect and release wiring harness.

Remove the intake manifold support bracket.
NOTE: Discard the gasket.

Disconnect breather.

Remove the valve cover. Discard the gasket.
NOTE:
- Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.
- Note the orientation of the component prior to removal

- Remove the camshaft bearing caps.
- Remove the camshafts.
- Inspect the components and renew if damaged or worn.
NOTE: Inspect the seal and replace the component if damaged.

Remove the valve cover vent oil separator.

Remove the oil filler neck. Discard the seal.

Remove the lifting eyes.
