Right Fuel Rail (G1851287): Removal

CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

NOTE:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

Always follow the fuel system health and safety precautions, when carrying out any repairs to the fuel system.

Release the pressure from the high pressure fuel components.
Refer to: FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE
Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
Remove the engine cover.
Refer to: ENGINE COVER - V6 S/C 3.0L PETROL
Drain the cooling system.
Refer to: COOLING SYSTEM PARTIAL DRAINING AND VACUUM FILLING .
Remove air cleaner outlet pipe.
Refer to: RIGHT AIR CLEANER OUTLET PIPE
Clean the fuel injection components.

Disconnect the left side coolant pipes.

Release the left side pipes.

Remove the left side engine Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.
CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.

Disconnect the right side coolant pipes.

Disconnect and release the brake vacuum pipe.

Remove the right side engine Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.

Remove the right side breather.

Release the engine wiring harness.
CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.

Remove the fuel crossover pipe.

Release the fuel pipe.

Disconnect the right side fuel injectors and ignition coils wiring harness.

Remove the right side ignition coils.

Remove the spark plugs.

Disconnect the fuel rail pressure sensor connector.
CAUTION: Make a note of the fuel injector clamp alignment to the fuel rail prior to removal.

Remove the right side fuel rail.
NOTE: This step is only required if a new fuel rail is installed.

Remove the fuel rail pressure sensor.

CAUTION:
- Make sure that the special tool is located correctly to the fuel injector prior to removing the fuel injector.
- Make sure that the special tool is held square to the fuel injector during removal.

Remove the right side fuel injectors.

Special Tool(s): 310-197

Remove and discard the fuel injector clamp.
CAUTION:
- Do not use a knife to remove the Teflon seal as damage could occur to the fuel injector.
- Do not cut the Teflon seal to deep as damage could occur to the fuel injector.
- Pinch the Teflon seal to allow the tool to cut the Teflon seal without damaging the fuel injector.

Remove and discard the fuel injector seal.
CAUTION:
- Do not use any sharp tools to remove the O-ring seal as damage could occur to the fuel injector.
- Take extra care not to damage the component.

Remove and discard seals.

Remove the engine mount nut.
Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

Remove the generator.

Release generator wiring harness.

Remove the idler pulley.
CAUTION: Use a wooden block to protect the oil pan when supporting the engine.

Using a suitable hydraulic jack, support the engine.
