Turbocharger - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Diesel - Mid, Low Power (G1821580): Removal

NOTE:

This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING
Remove the Low Pressure (LP) Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve.
Refer to: LOW PRESSURE EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE
WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping oil.

- Release the turbocharger oil feed pipe.
- Remove and discard the 2 washers.

Release the exhaust manifold temperature sensor.

- Remove the turbocharger heatshields.
Remove the air deflector.
Refer to: ENGINE UNDERSHIELD

- Remove the charge air cooler intake pipe.

- Release the catalytic converter lower mounting bracket.

- Remove the bolt.
- Push the oil return pipe into the engine and release it from the turbocharger.
- Remove the oil return pipe.
- Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.

Cut the clamp in the position illustrated.
CAUTION: Do not use power tools to remove or install the clamp.

- Remove the catalytic converter upper mounting bracket.
- Release the catalytic converter from the turbocharger.
- Remove and discard the catalytic converter to turbocharger clamp.
- Remove and discard the gasket.

- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the 2 turbocharger nuts.

- Remove the turbocharger.
- Remove and discard the gasket.
