In-Vehicle Crossbeam (G2018929): Removal

CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the wiring harness clips.
NOTE: Note the position of the wiring harnesses to aid installation.

The following step(s) applies to: 

All vehicles 

  1. Make the air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) safe.

    Refer to: STANDARD WORKSHOP PRACTICES

  2. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: LIFTING

  3. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT

  4. Partially drain the cooling system.

    Refer to: COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING AND VACUUM FILLING (INGENIUM I4 2.0L Diesel, General Procedures).

    Refer to: COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING AND VACUUM FILLING (V6 S/C 3.0L Petrol, General Procedures).

    Refer to: COOLING SYSTEM PARTIAL DRAINING AND VACUUM FILLING (TDV6 3.0L Diesel, General Procedures).

    Refer to: COOLING SYSTEM PARTIAL DRAINING AND VACUUM FILLING (INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol, General Procedures).

  5. Evacuate the Air Conditioning (A/C) system.

    Refer to: AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM RECOVERY, EVACUATION AND CHARGING

  6. NOTE: Repeat the procedure for the other side.

    Remove the front seats.

    Refer to: FRONT ROW SEAT - VEHICLES WITH: POWER SEATS

    Refer to: FRONT ROW SEAT - VEHICLES WITHOUT: POWER SEATS

  7. Remove the steering column.

    Refer to: STEERING COLUMN

  8. Remove the instrument panel console.

    Refer to: INSTRUMENT PANEL CONSOLE 

  9. Remove the secondary bulkhead left panel.

    Refer to: SECONDARY BULKHEAD LEFT PANEL - INGENIUM I4 2.0L DIESEL

    Refer to: SECONDARY BULKHEAD LEFT PANEL - V6 S/C 3.0L PETROL

    Refer to: SECONDARY BULKHEAD LEFT PANEL - TDV6 3.0L DIESEL

    Refer to: SECONDARY BULKHEAD LEFT PANEL - INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL

The following step(s) applies to: 

Left-hand drive vehicles 

  1. Remove the secondary bulkhead right panel.

    Refer to: SECONDARY BULKHEAD RIGHT PANEL - INGENIUM I4 2.0L DIESEL

    Refer to: SECONDARY BULKHEAD RIGHT PANEL - V6 S/C 3.0L PETROL

    Refer to: SECONDARY BULKHEAD RIGHT PANEL - TDV6 3.0L DIESEL

    Refer to: SECONDARY BULKHEAD RIGHT PANEL - INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL

  2. CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.

    • Disconnect the 2 coolant hoses.
    • Remove the nut.
  3. CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

    • Remove the bolt.
    • Disconnect the Air Conditioning (A/C) pipes.
    • Remove the torx bolt.

The following step(s) applies to: 

Right-hand drive vehicles 

  1. CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.

    • Disconnect the 2 coolant hoses.
    • Remove the torx bolt.
  2. CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

    • Remove the nut.
    • Disconnect the Air Conditioning (A/C) pipes.

The following step(s) applies to: 

All vehicles 

  1. NOTE: Repeat the step for the other side.

    • Remove the front treadplate trim panel.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
  2. CAUTION: Drivers side only.

    Remove the hood release lever.

  3. CAUTION: Drivers side only.

    Remove the cowl side trim panel.

  4. CAUTION: Passengers side only.

    Remove the cowl side trim panel.

    Remove the passenger floor mat.

    Remove the floor heater duct on the passenger side.

    Remove the driver floor mat.

    Remove the floor heater duct on the driver side.

  9. NOTE: Repeat the step for the other side.

    Remove the cross car beam lower bracket.

    Release the instrument panel wiring harness at driver side 'A' Pillar.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Release the wiring harness.

    • Disconnect the electrical connector from the electric booster heater.
    • Release the wiring harness.

    Disconnect the electrical connector.

    Release the wiring harness.

    Remove the glovebox cooling duct.

    • Remove the ground cable bolt.
    • Release the wiring harness.

    • Release the wiring harness.

    Disconnect the 4 electrical connectors.

    Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.

    • Disconnect the 6 electrical connectors.
    • Release the wiring harness.

    Release the wiring harness.

    Release the wiring harness.

    Disconnect the 2 evaporator drain tubes and aside.

    Remove the bracket.

  26. CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the wiring harnesses.

    With assistance, remove the in-vehicle crossbeam.

    Remove the in-vehicle crossbeam from the climate control assembly.
