CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

NOTE: This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING
Disconnect the start up battery ground cable.
Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS
Remove the engine front cover.
WARNING: Refer to: LOWER TIMING COVER
Remove the battery.
Refer to: BATTERY
Remove the battery tray.
Refer to: BATTERY TRAY
Remove the starter motor.
Refer to: STARTER MOTOR
Remove the charge air cooler.
Refer to: CHARGE AIR COOLER
Release the intake pipe.
Disconnect the electrical connector.

Release the coolant hoses.

Remove the intake pipe.
Disconnect the oil cooler hoses.
Disconnect the electrical connector.

Release the transmission wiring harness.
Remove the transmission vacuum pipe.
NOTE: This step must be preformed to the components on both sides of the vehicle.

Release the bonnet strut.
NOTE: This step must be preformed to the components on both sides of the vehicle.

Remove the bonnet strut support.
Using a suitable engine support beam support the engine.

Remove the air cleaner support bracket.
Remove and discard the transmission mounting bolts.
Remove the transmission mounting support.
Drain the transmission.
Refer to: TRANSMISSION FLUID DRAIN AND REFILL
Remove the front subframe.
Refer to: FRONT SUBFRAME
Remove the front left halfshaft.
Refer to: FRONT LEFT HALFSHAFT
Remove the front right halfshaft.
Refer to: FRONT RIGHT HALFSHAFT - RHD AWD/LHD AWD
Remove the driveshaft.
Refer to: DRIVESHAFT - INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL, VEHICLES WITHOUT: ACTIVE DRIVELINE

NOTE: If equipped.

Remove the transfer case pipes.
Remove the exhaust support bracket.
Remove the transfer support bracket.
Remove the lower transfer case bolts.
WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.

Remove the transfer case.
Remove the upper transmission bolts.
Remove the front lower transmission bolt.
Remove the 2 rear lower transmission bolts.
NOTE: Only turn the crankshaft in a clockwise direction.

Remove and discard the torque convertor bolts.
Using a suitable stand, support the transmission.

General Equipment: Transmission jack

Remove the rear upper transmission bolt.
WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.

CAUTION: Make sure that the torque converter remains in the transmission.

NOTE: Secure the torque converter to the transmission using suitable cable ties.

Remove the transmission.
NOTE: Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

Remove the charge air cooler bracket.

Remove the Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.
