Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover, 2017 Land Rover Range Rover, 2016 Land Rover Range Rover, 2014 Land Rover Range Rover, and 2013 Land Rover Range Rover. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The characteristics of the signal supplied by the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor are learned by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). This enables the PCM to set an adaption and support the engine misfire detection function. Due to a small variation between different drive plates and different CKP sensors, the adaption must be reset if either component is renewed, or removed and refitted. It is also necessary to reset the drive plate adaption if the PCM is renewed or replaced. The PCM supports four drive plate adaptions for the CKP sensor. Each adaption relates to a specific engine speed range. The engine speed ranges are detailed in the chart below:

ADAPTION ENGINE SPEED - REVOLUTION PER MINUTE (RPM)
1 1800 - 3000
2 3001 - 3800
3 3801 - 4600
4 4601 - 5400
