DTC P2422-00: Evaporative Emission System Vent Valve Stuck Closed: General Description

The evaporative emission control system prevents hydrocarbon (HC) vapor from the fuel tank from escaping into the atmosphere where they could form photochemical smog. Gasoline vapours are collected in the charcoal canister. The purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) is a solenoid valve and is installed on the surge tank and controls the passage between the canister and the intake manifold. The evaporative gases gathered in the canister are delivered to the intake manifold when the PCSV is open by PCM control signal.

The PCM controls the purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) to purge any collected vapor from the canister back to the engine for combustion. This valve is actuated by the purge control signal from the PCM and controls fuel vapor flow from the canister to the intake manifold.
