DESCRIPTION
The Front Exterior Lamps and Lighting system is comprised of several different components:

These exterior lighting lamp units and their controls are combined to provide the following exterior lighting features:
FEATURES
| Automatic Headlamp | The automatic headlamp feature is designed to automatically turn the exterior lights either ON or OFF, depending on the ambient lighting conditions. The auto headlamps feature operates when the ignition is in the RUN position, the engine rpm is greater than 450 rpm and the headlamp switch is in the AUTO position. The BCM outputs a LIN message for the Humidly Rain Light Sensor Module (HRLSM) ACTIVE. The HLRSM acquires a vehicle speed value LIN signal to improve the system performance. When HLRSM receives the BCM signal for light sensor active, the HLRSM will command the BCM through a LIN signal to activate the headlamps based on exterior ambient light levels detected by the HLRSM. When the BCM receives the HLRSM command to activate the lamps, the BCM will then turn on the lamps. When exterior light levels are no longer in range for auto headlamps, the HLRSM will send the command to the BCM to deactivate the headlamps. |
| Automatic High Beams | The automatic high beam feature is a customer programmable to either ON or OFF. This feature is available for vehicles equipped with a CADM which utilizes a hardwire signal from the Long Range Camera Front (LRCF) to monitor road conditions and ambient lighting levels to determine the appropriate times to activate or deactivate the high beam lamps. | Cornering Lamps | The Cornering Lamp function comprises two algorithms, one based on the steering angle or one based on the turn signal. Both functions are used when the cornering lights function is active. In case a conflict arises between the two, the functionality based on the steering angle is given priority to the expense of the strategy based on the turn lights. For steering angle, the BCM looks at the actual angle to determine when to turn on the cornering lamp. The average steering able resting range is 100 degrees. The minimum angle threshold is 40 degrees or lower while the maximum is 160 degrees or higher. When the steering angle meets the minimum or maximum threshold, the cornering lamps are activated until the angle falls back within the normal range. For the turn signal strategy, the fog lamps are activated according to the status of the signal lamps. When the turn signal lamps are active, so is the respective side cornering lamp. The cornering lamps have requirements to be met before they will operate. Those requirements are:

| Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) | DRLs are standard equipment on vehicles manufactured for sale in Canada and optional on vehicles manufactured for the United States. Canadian vehicles illuminate the high beam filament of each headlamp bulb at a reduced intensity to serve as the DRL units. Select for operation information. Refer to DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS . |
| Exterior Lamp Fail-Safe Operation | The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and the BCM provide a fail-safe feature which will automatically turn ON the low beam headlamps and all park lamps when the ignition position is in the ON position and there is no detected communication over the LIN or CAN data buses. |
| Exterior Lamp Load Shedding | The BCM provides a battery saver feature which will automatically turn OFF all exterior lamps that remain ON with the ignition position in the LOCK position after a timed interval of about eight minutes. |
| Headlamp Delay | The standard equipment low or high beam headlamps remain illuminated for a customer-programmable delay period of 0 (disabled), 30, 60 or 90 seconds when the headlamps are turned OFF after the ignition has been turned to the OFF position. | Headlamps ON with Snow (HOWS) | The HOWS feature is designed to automatically turn on the headlamps when the terrain selector is switched to Snow Mode for increased safety while driving in snowy conditions. This is not a customer programmable feature. |
| Headlamps ON with Wipers (HOWW) | HOWW is a feature designed to automatically turn on the headlamps when the wiper system is activated. This is a customer programmable option. HOWW is active when the option is enabled and the headlamp switch is in the AUTO position. HOWW is cancelled by rotating the headlamp switch out of the AUTO position or disabling in the customer programmable options menu. |
| Illuminated Approach | Illuminated approach activates the exterior lamps up to 90 seconds to help see obstacles when approaching the vehicle. This is a customer programmable feature that allows the customer to set this feature into one of four different selections:

| Lighting Animation | Animation is a sequence of headlamp and tail lamp illumination that is used as a welcome or departure feature when customer approach or depart the vehicle. The animation feature is customer programmable. The animation activation is generated by signals received by the BCM from the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) fob lock/unlock/remote start requests or the Passive Entry (PE) door handle lock/unlock detection. The SLMs receive animation requests alone with other final light output requests from the BCM. The SLM will then perform the animation if conditions are met. |
| Optical Horn | Also known as flash-to-pass, the beam selection function of the left multifunction switch control stalk has a momentary intermediate position that allows the headlamp high beams to be flashed momentarily, without changing the headlamp beam selection. |
| Remote Start Lighting | Remote start lighting is a customer programmable feature. If the BCM receives a remote start request from the Radio Frequency Hub (RFH) module, the BCM activates all of the vehicle park lamps after the ignition state transitions from START to RUN. During a remote start event, the BCM will still honor an illuminated approach request. |
