Cover(S), Cylinder Head: Installation

  1. If removed, install the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve (2). Refer to VALVE, POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV), INSTALLATION .
  2. If removed, install the engine cover ball studs (1). Tighten the ball studs to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  3. Install a NEW  cylinder head cover gasket (2) and tube seals (1) into the cylinder head cover.

  4. Clean the cylinder head cover sealing surfaces with isopropyl alcohol in preparation for sealant application.
    CAUTION:

    Engine assembly requires the use of a unique sealant that is compatible with engine oil. Using a sealant other than Mopar® Engine Sealant RTV Silicone Rubber Adhesive may result in engine fluid leakage.

    CAUTION:

    Following the application of Mopar® Engine Sealant RTV Silicone Rubber Adhesive to the gasket surfaces, the components must be assembled within 10 minutes and the attaching fasteners must be tightened to specification within the next 10 minutes. Prolonged exposure to the air prior to assembly may result in engine fluid leakage.

  5. Apply a 2 to 3 mm wide bead of Mopar® Engine Sealant RTV Silicone Rubber Adhesive to the cylinder head cover sealing surface in six places:
    • Front cover/cylinder head T-joint (3).
    • Variable Valve Actuator Assembly (VVAA)/cylinder head T-joint (1).
    • Rear exhaust camshaft bearing cap/cylinder head T-joint (2).

  6. Install the cylinder head cover to the cylinder head with the captured bolts (1) and stud-bolts (2) hand tight.

  7. Tighten the bolts and stud-bolts in the sequence shown in illustration to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  8. Install the wire harness trays (3) with the retainers (1).
  9. Engage the wire harness retainers (4) to the cylinder head cover stud bolts.
  10. Install the coolant tube to the stud bolt and tighten the engine cover ball stud (2) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  11. Install the hose (1) to the PCV valve on the cylinder head cover.

  12. If removed, install the make up air hose (1) to the cylinder head cover fitting, align the hose to the nipple (3) and tighten the CLIC E®  type clamp (2) using the (special tool #10288, Pliers, Hose Clamp)

    Refer to CLIC© HOSE CLAMP PLIERS - USAGE .

  13. Install the ignition coils. Refer to COIL, IGNITION, INSTALLATION .
  14. Install the clean air hose and engine cover. Refer to HOSE, CLEAN AIR, INSTALLATION .
  15. If removed, install the oil filter and fill the engine crankcase with the proper oil to the correct level. Refer to ENGINE OIL, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  16. Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector to the negative battery cable.
  17. Start the engine and check for leaks.
