Cover(S), Cylinder Head: Removal

Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
Remove the ignition coils. Refer to COIL, IGNITION, REMOVAL .
Remove the fuel injectors. Refer to INJECTOR(S), FUEL, REMOVAL .
Remove the variable valve timing solenoids. Refer to SOLENOID, VARIABLE VALVE TIMING, REMOVAL .
Remove the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. Refer to VALVE, EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR), REMOVAL .

Disconnect the quick couplings and remove the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose (1).
Disconnect the quick couplings and remove the Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) hose (2).

Remove the nut (2) and reposition the upstream oxygen sensor connector support bracket (1).

Disengage the wire harness retainers from the cylinder head cover and reposition the wire harness (1).

Remove the nut (2) and remove the ignition capacitor (1).

Loosen the twenty captive bolts (2) and remove the cylinder head cover (1).

Remove the sealant residues from the two T-joint locations (1) on the cylinder head.

Remove the sealant residues and the gaskets (1 and 2) from the cylinder head cover.
If required, remove the PCV valve from the cylinder head cover. Refer to VALVE, POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV), REMOVAL .
