Cover(S), Cylinder Head: Removal
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove the ignition coils. Refer to COIL, IGNITION, REMOVAL .
- Remove the fuel injectors. Refer to INJECTOR(S), FUEL, REMOVAL .
- Remove the variable valve timing solenoids. Refer to SOLENOID, VARIABLE VALVE TIMING, REMOVAL .
- Remove the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. Refer to VALVE, EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR), REMOVAL
.
- Disconnect the quick couplings and remove the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose (1).
- Disconnect the quick couplings and remove the Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) hose (2).
- Remove the nut (2) and reposition the upstream oxygen sensor connector support bracket (1).
- Disengage the wire harness retainers from the cylinder head cover and reposition the wire harness (1).
- Remove the nut (2) and remove the ignition capacitor (1).
- Loosen the twenty captive bolts (2) and remove the cylinder head cover (1).
- Remove the sealant residues from the two T-joint locations (1) on the cylinder head.
- Remove the sealant residues and the gaskets (1 and 2) from the cylinder head cover.
- If required, remove the PCV valve from the cylinder head cover. Refer to VALVE, POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV), REMOVAL .
