Camshaft, Engine: Removal
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove the variable valve timing phasers. Refer to ASSEMBLY, VARIABLE VALVE TIMING, PHASER / OIL CONTROL VALVE, REMOVAL .NOTE:
To avoid bending the camshafts, partially loosen each cam cap bolt, one turn at a time.
- Remove the camshaft cap bolts (1).NOTE:
Use the indicated pry point (2) to remove the front camshaft bearing cap (1).
- Remove the camshaft bearing caps and the camshafts.NOTE:
If removed, the front camshaft bearings can not be reused and must be discarded.
- If required, remove the front camshaft bearing (2) from the camshaft (3) using (special tool #8805, Installer, Bearing) (1).
