Camshaft, Engine: Installation

  1. If removed, install a NEW  front camshaft bearing (2) on the camshaft (3) using (special tool #W-262, Installer, Bearing) (1).

  2. Install the camshafts (1) on the cylinder head with the notches (2) facing up.

    NOTE:

    To avoid bending the camshafts, partially tighten each cam cap bolt, one turn at a time, to seat the camshafts to the head. Do not torque to specification until the cam caps are in full contact with the cylinder head.

  3. Install the camshaft bearing caps and bolts (1).

  4. Tighten the camshaft cap bolts in the sequence shown in illustration to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Install the variable valve timing phasers. Refer to ASSEMBLY, VARIABLE VALVE TIMING, PHASER / OIL CONTROL VALVE, INSTALLATION .
  6. Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector to the negative battery cable.
