Diagnostic Test

  1. READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN 
    1. With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
    2. With the scan tool, run a vehicle Scan Report, or record the Environmental Data related to the DTCs.
    3. NOTE: A front door must remain open whenever checking or erasing Radio DTCs. 
    4. With the scan tool, record and erase the Radio DTCs.
    5. Cycle the ignition switch from on to off, wait five seconds and then back to on.
    6. Turn the Radio on and set the volume to 25.
    7. With the scan tool, read the active Radio DTCs.
    NOTE:

    A front door must remain open whenever checking or erasing Radio DTCs.

    Did the DTC return?

    Yes 

    • Go To  2

    No 

  2. CHECK THE ANTENNA AND CABLE 
    1. Connect the (special tool #9977-6-FM, Antenna) to the antenna connection on the back of the Radio.
    2. Make sure one of the front doors is still open.
    3. Using the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. Turn the Radio on.
    6. Using the scan tool, read the active Radio DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. TEST THE ANTENNA CABLE 
    1. Disconnect the Antenna cable at the base.
    2. Connect the appropriate (special tool #9977-6-1, Adapter) or (special tool #9977-6-3, Adapter) to the Antenna cable at the back of the Radio.
    3. Connect the appropriate (special tool #9977-6-4, Jumper) or (special tool #9977-6-2, Jumper) to the Antenna cable at the Antenna base.
    4. Measure the Resistance across the tool terminals.

      Is the resistance below 47.5 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Use the (special tool #9977-6, Kit, Radio Antenna Diagnostic) to locate the short to battery in the circuit, repair or replace the Antenna cable as necessary.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE AUDIO ANTENNA 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Replace the audio antenna for a faultless one (replacement for test).
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. With the scan tool, erase DTCs from the Radio.
    5. Operate the vehicle in the conditions that set this DTC.
    6. With the scan tool, read DTCs from the Radio.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Replace the audio antenna in accordance with Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

  5. CHECK THE RADIO HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all Radio harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connectors (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect all related systems harness connectors.
    4. Check the harness and components connectors and the male female terminals for the following conditions
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Presence of foreign conductive materials on connector pins and terminals.
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Repair any damage found on step 4.
    6. Reconnect all Radio harness connectors. Make sure all the connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all the in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Make sure all the connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. Reconnect all the harness related connectors. Make sure the connectors are fully seated.
    9. With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
    10. Operate the vehicle in the conditions that set this DTC.
    11. With the scan tool, read the Radio DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
