NOTE:
The intake and exhaust springs are NOT interchangeable. Mark the springs accordingly for installation. Correctly identify the part numbers for new springs being installed.
- If removed, install the valve guide seal (2) over the valve guide. Refer to SEAL(S), VALVE GUIDE, INSTALLATION .NOTE:
Make sure that the garter spring (1) is intact around the top of the valve guide seal (2).
NOTE:The intake and exhaust springs are NOT interchangeable. Mark the springs accordingly for installation. Correctly identify the part numbers for new springs being installed.
NOTE:If the valve springs are being reused, reassemble them into their original locations.
- Install the valve spring (2) and valve spring retainer (1).
- Using the (special tool #10224, Adapter, Valve Spring) (1) with the (special tool #MD998772A, Compressor, Valve Spring), compress the valve spring (3) only enough to install the valve retaining locks (2).
- Relieve the air pressure and remove the spark plug adapter.
- Remove the fuel injectors and fuel rail from the cylinder head.
- Install the engine fuel pressure sensor to the fuel rail and tighten it the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the spark plugs. Refer to SPARK PLUG, INSTALLATION .
- Install the hydraulic lifters, rocker arms and camshafts. Refer to LIFTER(S), HYDRAULIC, INSTALLATION .
