Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK IF THE VEHICLE WILL DRIVE 
    1. Attempt to drive the vehicle.

      Does the vehicle drive?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • Inspect the driveline for broken components and repair. Items to inspect include:
        • Driveshaft and driveshaft joints.
        • Axle shafts or halfshafts.
        • Ring and pinion or differential gears.
        • If equipped, transfer case or Power Transfer Unit (PTU).
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
  2. CHECK FOR PROPER TIRE SIZE 
    1. Compare the tires on the vehicle to the vehicle placard label typically located in the drivers door opening.

      Does the tire size match the vehicle placard?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Go To  4
  3. READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN 
    NOTE:

    If the DTC C0078-86-TIRE DIAMETER - SIGNAL INVALID is present in the ABS module, diagnose this DTC before continuing. Refer to DTC INDEX (1 OF 2) and/or DTC INDEX (2 OF 2) .

    1. With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
    2. With the scan tool, run a vehicle Scan Report, or record the Environmental Data related to the DTCs.
    3. With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Using the recorded Environmental Data and the When Monitored Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    7. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

    Did the DTC return?

    Yes 

    • Go To  7

    No 

  4. CHECK FOR OVERSIZE TIRES 
    1. Check the tire size on the vehicle sidewall.

      Are the tires on the vehicle 33 inches or greater in diameter?

      Yes 

      • Check for STAR Online cases for Oversized Tire Calibration and perform procedure.
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) CONFIGURATION 
    NOTE:

    The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the Body Control Module (BCM) must match the vehicles VIN.

    NOTE:

    There is some variation in tire circumference depending on inflation pressure and amount of tire wear. A properly inflated tire circumference should typically be within 6 mm (0.250 in) of the Dynamic Tire Circumference stored in the BCM.

    1. With the scan tool, run a vehicle configuration report.
    2. Measure the tire circumference.
    3. Compare the measured tire circumference to the Dynamic Tire Circumference stored in the BCM.

      Does the tire circumference on the vehicle closely match the Dynamic Tire Circumference stored in the BCM?

      Yes 

      • Go To  6

      No 

  6. CHECK THE BODY CONTROL MODULE FOR AVAILABLE PRODUCTION TIRE SIZES 
    NOTE:

    A non-production size tire cannot be programmed into the BCM. The production Powertrain, with the production size tires, is the only emissions certified configuration that is available for reprogramming.

    1. Check if the tire size installed on the vehicle is an available option for the vehicle configuration for this vehicle.

      Is there a production tire size (Dynamic Tire Circumference) option that can be programmed into this BCM?

      Yes 

      No 

  7. CHECK FOR DTC U0121-00-LOST COMMUNICATION WITH ABS MODULE 
    1. With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.

      Is DTC U0121-00-LOST COMMUNICATION WITH ABS MODULE present?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Using the schematics as a guide, check the TCM connector and all related in-line connector terminals for corrosion, damage, or pushed out terminals. Pay particular attention to the power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace and program the TCM in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
