Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) 
    NOTE:

    If there are any active line pressure, solenoid or gear ratio/clutch DTCs present, diagnose and repair those first before proceeding with this test.

    1. With the scan tool, read Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
    2. Record the Event Data and Environmental Data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
      NOTE:

      Stop the vehicle and place shifter into PARK position multiple times during the next step.

    4. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    5. With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK MANUAL PARK RELEASE (MPR) CABLE AND LEVER 
    1. Check MPR Cable and Lever for binding, obstruction, or damage that could cause this condition.
      • Check that the system operates smoothly from the lever inside the vehicle.
      • Check that the cable is properly routed with no sharp bends or kinks.
      • Check the levers at the operator end and transmission ends for any obstructions that could prevent full range of movement.
      • If necessary, disconnect the MPR cable from the lever at the transmission to isolate any conditions found.

      Is the MPR Cable or Lever binding, obstructed or damaged?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL AND CONDITION 
    1. Check the transmission fluid level in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to CHECK FLUID LEVEL .

      Is the transmission fluid level correct and appear in good condition?

      Yes 

      • Go To  6

      No, transmission fluid level is low but appears in good condition. 

      • Go To  4

      Transmission fluid condition is deteriorated. 

      • Go To  5
  4. FILL THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TO THE CORRECT LEVEL 
    1. Correct the transmission fluid level in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to CHECK FLUID LEVEL .
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
      NOTE:

      Stop the vehicle and place shifter into PARK position multiple times during the next step.

    4. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

  5. REMOVE THE TRANSMISSION OIL PAN FOR INSPECTION 
    1. Remove the transmission oil pan.
    2. Check the transmission oil pan for debris that indicates an internal transmission problem.
    3. Inspect the Transmission oil filter for damage or visual indications of flow restriction.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      • Repair as necessary in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  6
  6. REPLACE THE VALVE BODY AND RETEST FOR DTCS 
    1. Replace the valve body in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to VALVE BODY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
      NOTE:

      Stop the vehicle and place shifter into PARK position multiple times during the next step.

    4. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
