Valve Body

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

CAUTION:

The Transmission Control Module (TCM), or Transmission Control Module Assembly (TCMA) is extremely sensitive to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Always use a ground strap and follow the ESD guidelines in ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE SENSITIVE DEVICES. Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage to the TCM/TCMA.

REMOVAL

Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
Disengage the Manual Park Release on the vehicle to remove the transmission from park. Refer to MANUAL PARK RELEASE (MPR) DISENGAGEMENT .
Drain the transmission fluid. Refer to FLUID/FILTER SERVICE .

1 - Transmission Wire Harness Connector
Disconnect the transmission wire harness connector from the transmission by rotating the connector counter-clockwise.

1 - Oil Pan Bolts

2 - Transmission Oil Pan Assembly

NOTE:
Inspect the gasket for reuse. If the seal is cut or torn, replace the gasket.
Remove the oil pan bolts.
Remove the transmission pan assembly and gasket.

1 - Hydraulic Impulse Solenoid (HIS) Wire Harness Connector

2 - HIS Bolts
If equipped, disconnect the Hydraulic Impulse Solenoid (HIS) wire harness connector.

Remove the three HIS bolts and remove the HIS accumulator.

3 - Electrical Connector Lock

Remove the valve body assembly end retainer bolts.
Lift the electrical connector lock to release the internal harness end from inside the transmission for valve body assembly removal.

1 - Output Speed Sensor (OSS) Bolt
Remove the Output Speed Sensor (OSS) retaining bolt and pull the sensor loose from the case.

2 - Electrical Harness Insulator

Using (special tool #10377, Remover/Installer, Guide Sleeve), pull the electrical harness insulator straight out from the transmission case.

3 - HIS Connector

Remove two valve body assembly retaining bolts in the positions shown and install the (special tool #10379, Pins, Valve Body Alignment).
Use an appropriate tool on one of the alignment pins to assist in holding the valve body in position while removing the remaining fasteners.

Remove remaining valve body assembly retaining bolts in the order shown.
Manually rotate the manual park release lever to disengage the valve body from park position and carefully lower the valve body assembly from the transmission.
NOTE:
The fluid port may remain in the valve body upon removal.

1 - Transfer Port
Remove the fluid transfer port from the transmission.
Remove and DISCARD the fluid transfer port O-rings.

INSPECTION AND CLEANING

Inspection

Inspect the valve body and transmission housing mating surfaces.

INSTALLATION

Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.

During installation torque the following fasteners to specification:

Hydraulic Impulse Solenoid (HIS)	8 N.m (71 In. Lbs.)	-
Manual Park Release Cable Bracket Nut	20 N.m (15 Ft. Lbs.)	-
Output Speed Sensor Bolt	8 N. m (71 In. Lbs.)	-
Transmission Oil Pan Bolt	10 N.m (89 In. Lbs.)	-
Valve Body Bolt	8 N.m (71 In. Lbs.)	Torque sequence must be followed - See below.

CAUTION:

If installing a new valve body, check shipping container for any loose shipped parts and install as necessary.

Install the valve body assembly to the transmission using the previously installed (special tool #10379, Pins, Valve Body Alignment) as a guide.
Use an appropriate tool on one of the alignment pins to assist in holding the valve body in position while installing the remaining fasteners.

Install NEW valve body assembly retaining bolts 1-14 and hand tighten the valve body bolts.
Remove the pins and install the remaining bolts.

When installing the output speed sensor into the case, take care to position the output speed sensor guide pin as shown in the step below or DAMAGE to the sensor may result. This is the INCORRECT alignment of the pin.

This is the CORRECT installation and pin alignment.

Tighten ALL of the valve body bolts to the proper torque in the sequence shown.

NOTE:
If the transmission was contaminated or the gasket is damaged a NEW pan and filter assembly must be installed.
Install the 13 transmission fluid/filter pan assembly bolts and tighten to the proper torque in the sequence shown.
If the valve body is replaced, program the TCM. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), MODULE PROGRAMMING .
Perform the TRANSMISSION FILL AFTER SERVICE procedure. Refer to TRANSMISSION OIL FILL AFTER SERVICE .
Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
